    European War medal 1914

    Recommended Posts

    Hello there,

I bought this unusual medal about a year ago, and was wondering if anybody knew the origin of this medal. It has the Republic of France symbol, the British lion and Union Jack, and I believe the Russian double headed eagle. It appears to be a medal for the allies, but when it was awarded and for what I do not know. Please let me know any information on this ww1 medal.

    Thanks,

    Pat

The front reads "European War 1914" as well. Here is the back.

    Hallo Pat

This I believe falls into the Catagory of unofficial patriotic medals, such medals were produced in the thousands, differing in shape, designation etc... but all connected patrioticaly, it would not have been worn by a soldier, the wire hanger is fixed into the slot where a piece of red, white, and blue ribbon would go.

And seeing as the Lion and British symbol is centre and larger, than the French symbol or the Russian, tends me to believe this was made in England.

Ah the good old stories of the famous sherlock :P

    But you know...

    SIR arthur Conan Doyle.....

    is his right name :speechless:;)

And yes he did say more in his books,

    The all famous phrase is;

    Dr. Watson... I presume

    Talking about Dr. Watson....

Weren't he invalided out of army??

What medals would he have had if he were real????

Maybe nice to try and guess :):D

    Hallo Jacky

The word "Sir" is only a honorary title, on his birth certificate it would state his name Arthur Conan Doyle.

    yes it is honorary,

but those folks across the channel, once under the command of our suppreme king, William...

    anyway that's :off topic:

Those folks really do use the honorary titles.....

So if one is a sir, even if his name is Mick Jagger :P They say Sir....

    So I say...

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Kt (to denote that he's Knight Bachelor)

    ;)

    Greetzz

    Jacky
