Discharged after the First World War as an Oberleutnant aD from Hessian Infantry Regiment 118, he ereturned to army service as an (E) "retread" in the mid 1930s. When the Second World War started, he was on the staff of Kraftfahr Abteilung 9. His final rank was Oberstleutnant, in 1943.
