Ribbons On Overcoats

Yes, overcoats. This was a hold-over from the 19th century, and although perfectly regulation, not often seen, since it was highly impractical.

Here are two NCOs from Landsturm Infantry Battalion IX/29 wearing their Iron Crosses and Hamburg Hanseatic Crosses as overcoat ribbons.
