    Wehrmacht 25mm Width Ribbon Bar

This larger of the two common German ribbon bar sizes was not often worn by members of the military.

In this late 1934 or early 1935 portrait, later-GeneralmajorChristoph Stengel (1893-1953) is wearing his pre-Hindenburg Cross, old Imperial precedence bar:

    1) Saxon Saint Henry Order-Knight
    2) Saxon Merit Order-Knight 2nd X
    3) Saxon Albert Order-Knight 2nd X
    4) Prussian Iron Cross 1914 2nd Class

The old rules were in effect until 1935, whenh the new Third Reich precenece put the Iron Cross in first place for everyone.

Notice the early type Wehrmacht cap and breast insignia.
