This 2 piece device for the Baden Zähringen Lion Order (the green and orange ribbon is mucch faded) could represent either the Knight 1st Class or Knight 2nd. We only know it was the latter from being able to identify the original wearer from the complete ribbon bar. A later-generalleutnant, he chose (or Godet chose for him!!!) "S" hilt swords on three Orders--none of which used that style! But the "Pour le Merite" style oakleaves here--completely unlike the pointed trio found on the full size Orders--is a Godet characteristic.
