This item has caused more controversy than any other item on military forums. It has been the catalyst for more arguments, banishments , alleged fraudulent sales, and the manifestation of hatred between Third Reich collectors than any other single item in recent years. I have had no choice but to lock two threads on the subject because of the emotions it has raised. I will be honest I have followed the debate from afare only getting dragged in when conflict arises.
Is it time to call enough is enough and bury the topic for evermore ? Or can we start with a clean slate, keep personal agendas out of it and analyse the facts! Human nature probably indicate that it is not possible, but hopefully I can be proved wrong. Can we achieve the impossible and objectively reach some kind of conclusion, maybe not beyond reasonable doubt, but perhaps more on the balance of probabilities ?
However there will be clear guidelines to follow. Therefore before posting in this thread all members must acknowledge the following guidelines. Any breach of these rules will lead to posts being immediately removed and a warning given. Any further breach will lead to suspension of membership. Its as simple as that, if you can?t trust yourself to follow the rules, steer clear is the only advice I will give.
The Rules:
All normal forum rules apply PLUS:
Any implied abusiveness, threatening remarks or patronising comments, no matter how veiled against any other individual (whether a member of this forum of not) will not be tolerated.
No third party reference to any individual ownership, or sale of said items will be tolerated, only reference to personal ownership will be allowed.
A respect for other members opinions is a prerequisite for posting. A healthy, intelligent debate without resorting to abusiveness or threats (whether implied or believed) is the objective of this topic. We can all agree to disagree with some opinions but underhand abusive tactics will not be tolerated.
This is not a blame game. It is not a question of blame or an attempt to discredit other members theories, all theories will be open to examination. Group persecution of a particular member with the objective of discrediting them will not be tolerated, if this becomes apparent or is suspected the topic will be closed.
And the last rule is if I don?t like the tone of a post it will be removed, no further explanation will be given.

We have been there and done this one to death. Unless any startling new evidence emerges this topic is closed.

The SS one is a well-known repro, unfortunately
Cheers Robin I thought as much. I did not even see it when I bought it I was more interested in the RAD and Kyffh?user pins, so was suprised when I found it in the bag. Not something you would let go so easily if original

Some more of the RAD.

My latest medal bar. I have been looking for one for a while and literally just got this in time, as someone else was interested but like all good things was not cheap.

Any ideas what this is as I am unsure.

What do you reckon on this one then as I have my doubts.

I managed to aquire a mixed bag of stickpins whilst in Hamburg at the weekend. A nice little bunch some post war veterans pins as well as a few Third Reich era. Believe all to be OK, but reserve judgement on the SS pin which I didn't find in the bag until I got back to the hotel.
Will post a few close up on some of the more interesting ones.

The flag is the Imperial Japanese War Flag, which symbolises the Japanese Victory at Singapore.

I believe the medallions were made for purchase as a kind of triumphantalist commemoration medal. There were numerous designs to mark many of the early Nazi/Axis triumphs. As you would expect as the war progressed these medallions eventually faded out as victory turned to defeat.

The order of precedence for Canada shows the Golden Jubilee Medal taking precedence over the Canadian Forces Decoration as well as the Long service medals and Centennial medal. Other campaign medals, UN, and NATO would take precedence as in the UK. It is most definitely the Golden Jubilee Medal.

I am sure I have seen a photo of him wearing it in Munich at a Putsch Commemorative Ceremony ?

That does not look like an UNMEE ribbon to me. That looks like the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal (Canada).

No offence taken, no need to apologise.
We are both proud of our Naval Past as should be the other great sailing nations of the world Viz: France and Spain.

You misconstrue me. I am talking about them as places to visit, it was not some cheap shot across the bows. HMS Victory is an amazing sight to visit. Do not get me wrong USS Constitution has an important place in Naval history and is the oldest warship afloat. It also makes for a very interesting tour. But you can't compare a frigate to a 1st Rate ship of the line, (which was also importantly Nelson flagship at Trafalgar).
If you enjoyed USS Constitution all I will say is go and visit HMS Victory before making your mind up.
As for 1812 war, well by that time, behemoths such as Victory were starting to be assigned to the scrap yard. The 1812 war certainly started to re shape Naval warfare and USS Constitution and other the Ironsides certainly seriously outgunned and outsailed their Royal Navy counterparts. It gave the Royal Navy a bloody nose on several occasions losing several ships, HMS Guerriere, HMS Macedonian, & HMS Java to name but three. But USS President, Chesapeake and Essex also met their match.
But like the war of 1812 there are no winners in this game, so each to his own

Hofschroer likes to to be controversial in his books on Waterloo, its how he sells them and had gained his reputation. I am not convinced by some of his arguments, they make for an interesting read, but I feel he is so biased towards the Prussians that some areas needed to be treated warily.

In the absence of a date it probably commemorates either her Golden or Diamond Jubilees ?

I think Rick was refering to the ribbon being worn on a ribbon bar on tunics without breast pockets. As opposed to the correct wear as seen on the Panzer Tunic photo.
