Ah yes I can see where it was converted now.
Well 20 years later and he will at least break even, as the going price for one of these crosses is at least ?400.
But a poor return when you consider how much ?400 20 years ago would be by todays standards.
Ah well it could have been worse it could have been a total repro
Cheers for the photos Dave very interesting.

I am afraid that "naff" is a negative term.
It is not as strong as meaning that something is out and out bad, more like it is lacking in taste or style.
Probably originates from the services reference to the NAAFI the butt of many British Servicemens jokes.

Like Jim I have been after one of these Ubergrosse EKs for a few years now. I did have the opportunity to buy a nice example a few years ago but at the time I thought the guy was asking too much money for it.
When I compare the prices now
One query I have with the example shown is the suspension ring. I though the suspension rings on these awards were like standard EK2, that looks like an RK suspension ring ?
PS. EKman I love your avatar animal

BTW,if that is the cased cross do you think you could show a photo/scan of the cross recess in the case?
No different cross but I can show you the case recess. Is this what you want ?

Does that mean you want to get rid of that cased EKII??? I can trade you a few tinnies for it!
No not just yet

Never seen that Newfoundland Volunteer Medal before, thanks for posting that a pretty scarce award ! Is it named at all ?
What did he serve on during WW2 ?
My grandfather was a RNR Skipper and was called up in 1939 and served until end of the war. He served on trawlers doing mine clearance for convoys in the North Atlantic.

Sorry you are right "113" Herman Aurich. I thought I had saved the photo as L13.
I was getting confused with another minty Deumer EK2 I have got (which is fact marked L/11).

Thats the type I missed out on due to hesitation. A dealer was selling loads of fakes at a military fair at Tilbury in Essex a few years ago, amongst a few fake EKs is one of these. I had only just bought your new book a few weeks before hand and recalled seeing the picture of one of these, which up until then I had been totally ignorant of their existance.
The dealer only wanted ?30 for it. The round three and the ugly shape of it stick in my mind well. I had a good look at it, all the time thinking is this real or anothe r one of his fakes. I put it down hesitated and all was lost, another guy had been watching me and immediately bought it.
On getting home and looking in your book I could have wept !!!

I wish the stuff wasn't so expensive though!

I missed out on one of those badly a couple of years ago.
I was at a military fair in England and this dealer had loads of fake Third Reich medals. As I was looking through the crap I found what I now know was a Schinkel type B Ek2. Because of all the fake crap I was a little unsure at first of what I had so I studied it for a while and fatally I hesitated and put it back amongst the other stuff. I walked away from his stall and turned back (thinking what the hell he only wanted ?30 for it anyway) and to my horror I saw another guy paying the dealer for the EK2. He had been watching me examine it and had picked it up as soon as my back was turned.
It wasn't until I got home and looking in Gordon Williamsons (then new) book I realised exactly it was I had missed out on. It was my own fault and I was pretty hacked off over it at the time and I still feel gutted even to this day.
He who hesitates is lost.
I bet the other guy was a very happy man :violent-smiley-017:

I am afraid to say that this section has been slow to get off the ground.
Do stick around and pass the word as I would really like to get this section moving along a bit and your knowledge is needed !

Thanks for the update it is good to list the individual names to prevent people who gave their lives just becoming more statistics.

If you do not have anything worth while to contribute to posts could you not bother in the first place. Your posts are getting a little tiresome.
