I guess a "good shot" had a box of em ;-)
Someone somewhere posted he had bought an RFC sweetheart brooch, then discovered it was a rare mess dress badge.
Hmm interesting, never heard of a messdress piece...I reckon they would be a bit bigger than the sweethearts, look a bit of a poof with a 2 1/2 inch brooch on
Then again the Americans used a 2 inch set of wings for I believe the shirt?? http://www.germanmilitaria.com/OtherNation...os/C004456.html

What is the difference between some of these and the small messdress ones?
And "sweetheart" brooch?
Is that like the "I shagged a pilot and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt" version at that time....??
Dunno,never seen a messdress version.
Err not exactly Chris
They were given to wives/girlfriends as a token of love and I suppose it showed that the girl was "spoken for" and to keep any lecherous hands off her while the bloke was away shooting down baddies and the like.

Unbelieveable that this thread was forgotten!
This particular one being presented is the early type in 835 silver, awarded in March 1941 to a Bordfunker on HE-111's.

Gorgeous photo Rich!
I'm after an Ehrenpokal and I know there are a few on various dealer sites but I want a nice early silver piece.

Ah ha! So it arrived, Dave. What a nice clean set!
Out of interest, are there any maker stamps on the case?
No John and the base is firmly stuck in as well.

Indeed it is. The man does not collect german, but wanted one German Battle of Britain group. In the end a Spanish Cross in Gold group with front clasps and EK1 and 2 fell into his lap.
He did not even notice the round 3 cross.
Have you got photos of the rest of the group Chris?...if so please post mate!

Silver War Badge.

WW1 British Silver War badge also called the Wound Badge.
The Silver War Badge
The Silver War Badge (SWB), sometimes erroneously called the Silver Wound Badge, was authorised in September 1916 and takes the form of a circular badge with the legend "For King and Empire-Services Rendered" surrounding the George V cypher. The badge was awarded to all of those military personnel who were discharged as a result of sickness or wounds contracted or received during the war, either at home or overseas.
