I still haven't heard from the German war graves. I have sent another email and this time I took the liberty of attaching the original picture to assist with making the point. (My German isn't the best even with the aid of a translation website.) I hope you don't mind Dave!!
Having said all that 'In Memoriam' would appear to be hot favourite after seeing Stephens post.
I shall update the thread as soon as I get the definitive answer from the 'horses mouth'.
Johnny
Of course I don't mind Johnny ...and many thanks for taking the time to find out what I.M. actually means!
Cheers

Nice cross ..it's an early-ish example, definitely far superior to the rubbish that has been churned out in the last few years.

Have you got a scanner Anthony? I think a good obv/rev scan and a mega close up of the marks would be great.

Well over on the aircraft forum it got them all talking, some thought it was an La-5 and others thought it was a Yak-9 with an Ash-82FN engine and a couple got it right and identified it as a Yak-3 with an American built radial engine....apparently the plane you posted is a bit of a hybrid.
Cool looking aircraft though

Very unusual! An anchor is the assay mark for Birmingham and of course 925 is usually an English silver content stamp.
Any chance of posting some close up shots of the marks and the reverse?
Cheers

Awesome photo!!!
He must have borrowed someone's Service Visor as it seems to have a different waffenfarbe piping.
PAul
That's what I've always thought Paul, the piping seems to be black!
