    3. Yes Full entitlement is 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, BWM, GSM bar Palestine 1945-48 (RAF naming style). GSM named to 1545 SGT PATROS MATTI.

He served in the Street Fighting in Athens (aiborne operation December 1944) and the the battle of Sarande Albania 6th October 1945 an amphibious assault with 40th Commando. He is on the nominal roll for both actions as a Cpl.

I haven't managed to confirm how he earned his GSM Palestine as the unit was demobed back to Iraq and may have been absorbed into RAF Regiment Armored Car Regiment.

I suspect that he was also entitled to a 1939-45 Star and War Medal. The Regs are here: http://medals.nzdf.m...nts/h9-reg.html and show that Iraq was a Theatre of war:

      ii) Middle East

      Iraq 10.4.41 31.5.41

    4. SCR is actually a nice medal.... just hard to get great pictures at 75kb

      Nice groups love.gif

It seems that the SC is of poor quality - no enamel, only painted and laquered ?

I`ve quit collecting Rhodesian/Zimbabwe stuff. Just sold my last RGSM to a KiA of the RLI at DNW July-auction.

      You can`t collect everything - unfortunately sad.gif

      Greetings

      eitze

    5. Very, very nice.......

      Dear collectors,

I just acquired this interesting medal group, mounted at J R Gaunt, Montreal. It consists of:

      -Order of Canada Member

      -Order of St John Officer

-Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee medal

      -Greece-Red Cross Gold Cross

      -Greece-Order of George I, Officer's Cross

      -Greece-National Fund decoration

      -Greece-National Struggle Cross 1946-1950

      -Greece-Military Merit medal, 4th class

      -Greece-Interallied Victory medal

It is interesting to see for the first time an unofficial state award, as the National Fund decoration, attached on a group of medals.

I do have some questions whether this group is genuine or not, as the Victory medal was awarded no later than 1919, while the silver Jubilee medal couldn't have been awarded before 1977. I am wondering if anyone knows where I could find information about the owner of this group. The only thing I have is that the Order of Canada has a number of "296" inscribed on its reverse. If anybody can help, your assistance would be highly appreciated!

      Regards,

      Dimitris

    6. Not so strange, Dimitris.

This is a genuine group with award certificates for the Greek Awards. Greek guy ex REME, RAF and Greek Mountain Brigade.

      Shaun

      I recently purchased a rack of medals at a flea market - mostly because I was slightly bemused by the strange combination of medals, which comprises;

      War Commemorative Medal 1940-1941

Greek German (Army) 1941-1945 War Medal (Land Ops)

      British 1939-45 Star

      British Africa Star

      British Italy Star

      British War Medal

The group is well-mounted on an old brooch pin. (Sorry, no image - my camera has decided not to play today).

Does this group make sense to anyone? I have never heard of the Free Greek Army or Royal Hellenic Army being entitled to British awards and cannot imagine the circumstances under which these would be issued to a British serviceman. Can anybody help me resolve this mystery?

      Many thanks,

    7. Gidday Kevin,

I have some nice Korean war items including New Zealand, Australia and Swedish (off I know). If you need more scans when you start let me know.

Dimitris will enjoy this one to a NZ WW2 and Korea Veteren - nice Greek Award for Rimini.

      Shaun

      Dimitris,

Kevin Ingraham here. The book sold out very fast and is only available in used book stores and usually at inflated prices.

I recently started writing its replacement and have a publisher lined up. If you must have the old book, I know of a store in Kingston, Ontario, Canada with one. (the look on the clerk's face when I ID'ed myself as the author was worth the drive up there 8>)

Simply, there is so much new information available now and from better, more primary sources than I had back in the early '90s, and some of it inspired by my book, that I can't re-release the original edition. There are few errors in the old book and most of those are quite minor; it's just that there is so much newer info now, to say nothing of newer medals. Plus, I was an amateur at the time and I'm now a couple courses away from a history degree and am now, let's say, professionaly trained.

There's a few folk on this forum I'll be reaching out to, and I'm looking forward to participating in this new (to me) club.

    8. Gidday Peter long time no hear.... this is how I got it - Ribbon too hard to get to remount.

Hope you are well. When did you join the Zim Society? I need some research on my Zim Gallantry medals one day. Just got another Silver Cross at Kaplans auction.

      Shaun

Interesting that the Prison LSGC is before the Zim 10 year Service Medal. The Zim Medal should go before the Rhodesian ones.

    9. So first off is a RAR Malaya GSM, RGSM and then Zimbabwe Prision Service Group. Very nice long service.

Group of 5. to SGT G MASIRI - Zimbabwe Independence 18426, Rhodesian Prison LSGC to 5281 Sgt G Maisiri, Zimbabwe 10 year Service medal to 905281 P.O.3 Maisiri G, Rhodesian Prison GSM to 5281 L/Cpl Masiri, GSM Bar Malaya to 4915 Pte Masire Rh.AR

I have a couple of Silver Crosses and a Bronze Cross group (need to scan and post)..... just need to reduce them to 75kb
