Hi Bill.
It's a beautiful medal, this right is a type Marlon by Janvier-Berchot. Recently I received another Vic French, type Marlon by "Paris Mint cornocopia & BR"

A very informative thread gentlemen. There is a lot more to this medal than I first thought. @lambert: interesting that there are buttons on the reverse for attaching instead of a pin. I have a ribbon bar that is quite similar. Best wishes Matt
This type of system and really quite unusual in groups of medals.
Could shows your example?

Hi Bill
I talked with Brazilian collectors, and all (that I know) have only the type 2 unmarked.
By the photo it is hard to know for sure. I think it is possible, that Type 1 is very draught for only small naval officers, and subsequently left the medals Type 2 in 1923.
Of course, this does not explain the medal support system (type 1"a")

It was a bargain. I missed this auction
because I forgot completely to my bid.
Another opportunity to make these is difficult to appear.

Hi Alls
Everyone I've ever seen, are of type 2 (without the manufacturer's mark),
Some of those present at the forum, seen even in photos, the type 1 with wire suspension and marking?
Apparently the Medal with cylindrical suspension, there seems to be a copy, the winged figure is exactly identical to type 2. Suggests that is a variant of production?

Hello Jim,
I didn't know the existence of this false Vic Portuguese (signed). Can I conclude then, that there is an Original version signed by author, and then copied.
This information were already known? There is this in the book of Mr. Laslo?

I don't want to make this as absolute truth, unfortunately we need to rely only on what was reported by collectors.
I believe that is valid for the time being, but we should seek more information.

Hi All
While I was looking for more information about the MV Portugal, found another type of signed Medal, from the same manufacturer Portuguese (da Costa) manufactured between 20/30, is a reproduction of the Kind signed by João da Silva (taken as an officer).
I think this is a very hard Type (João da Silva) limited, and only in Portugal, so never appeared in Official catalogues, so very rare.
This type was offered me while repro sought the best-known Vic.
Repro Type "JS"
Detailed photos.

I have noticed this bidder, bids on a lot of things. When he sets his mine to the fact that he wants it, he put a very high number so matter what you bid you will lost. He just won all four items and all four are sand casted items?
1. Cuban sand casting = $236.50 item # 260946754425
2. Greek sand casting = $224.50 item #250985650285
3. Italian sand casting = $52.02 item #250985646621
4. Siam sand casting $235.95 ( the sand cast was of the repro medal not the original one). item #250985637512
I post this to say to all members, if you need help in ID-ing something reach out to one of the many forum members for a second opinion by sending them a personal email.
Hi Jim,
Yes, they are sand casting, of poor quality. Unfortunately there's always people willing to throw money away, without the least care.
I tried contacting ebay, but got no answer ..
there is nothing to do.

I found a very rare photo of a Journal of the Brazilian Navy, the Victory Medal, and I want to share with the Gentlemen.
Photo taken in 1939 at 50 years of the Proclamation of the Republic
Among some decorations are: Vic Brazilian end
Commemorative Medal of the Royal Visit to Brazil (1920)

Hello Lambert,
While a little off-topic, here is the miniature italian war commemorative medal. It is part of a larger mini group of 5, including a vic, that I am re-constructing.
It is maker marked 'S J' (Stephano Johnson) immediately below the wreath on the central bottom of the obverse. In addition the designers mark 'S.C' for Silvio Canevari is to the right, as viewed, of the bust of the King.
Such detail from a miniature only 18mm in diameter is good workmanship.
The dated year bars are also a nice design.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Rob
Hi Rob.
Thanks for sharing.
I am interested in getting more mini-group, maybe later ...

Hello Lambert,
Nice group. It is interesting that the war medal has what appears to be two palms with 'A' or 'L' monogram on them; instead of the miniature dated year bars. These dated year bars are quite difficult to find.
Regards,
Rob
Hi Rob,
Indeed, palms are "A" and "L", I believe it is Belgian, but how they got there, I do not know.
I think that the veteran was in service in Belgium (I'm an optimist) ...
or were added to the group value on Ebay. I guess we'll never know.
in fact, I really like this group.

Hi Bill
Very good! is in excellent condition. To demonstrate the color correctly, I suggest using a scanner to scan the image, is 100% correct.
I'm awaiting the arrival of some Vic in my collection:
A Vic Portugual, Italy and finally USA.

A question: the military awarded service medals (USA), they could use them to regulate?
