    1. I received an interesting email a few days on the vic Portuguese.

This e-mail sent by Mr. José de Quintanilla Mantas - Museologist .

Account that there is another 'original' Victory Medal Portuguese:

The medal of the sculptor João da Silva was signed by him. This medal was the target of a lot of discussion, because João was in Paris and the contest was not respected.

Therefore, a first issue came out, thousands of medals unsigned and unofficial, and later, João da Silva called for the issue of his medal he had won the contest. The Interior Ministry, after some debate, accepted the situation and there was the issue of the medal, with signature.

This is the photo he sent me

You can see the Signature of 7:00 and year in Roman numerals MDCCCCXX

He is Gunner James Connell, RFA who went to France on 27 November 1915. The 'L' indicates a 'Locally-recruited gunner which means that he was in one of the RFA brigades between approximately 148 Brigade, RFA and 180 Brigade, RFA. Gunner 1

      Thanks for your help Gunner

Alfred MADLE, Esq. For political and public

      services in Middlesex.

I think this answers the question

Thanks for your help Paul Wood.

I could not answer your question Robw.

Indeed, the salesman warned me about this detail of the ribbon. This could be a mistake in the assembly of mini-group. The original group has the MBE with the right ribbon

    5. Hello Lambert,

I would echo what Tim has mentioned. Yes it appears to be a French produced item, most likely by the Paris firm of Janvier-Berchot by the looks of the triangle makers mark. The BRONZE mark is seen quite often on French produced medals.

Considering the large quantity of the official strike these French produced versions are not seen all that often and are often overlooked as a standard official strike.

      Regards,

      Rob

      Hi Robw

This part is another brand BRONZE.

    6. Hi Lambert,

Yes, looks like a French maker's stamp and a partial "Bronze" stamp on the rim, commonly seen on French produced items.

I can't tell what mark is inside the triangle, could be J&B or something else. You could try to loop it or magnify it and compare to the thread in the French section on maker marks. I think you'll find that thread very informative here.

      Tim

Confirmed that the mark of Manufacturer and "J & B" ;)

    7. I just received this group which I had won on ebay. But I find it strange that the owner had used an unofficial type-3 Belgium/France Victory Medal for his grouping.

      Hi Johnny

I think this is a kind of unofficial French 4. The type Dubois UNIFAC.

    8. Hello Lambert,

Does the vic you posted in # 5 & 6 have any edge markings? The larger ball suspender is characteristic of French manufacture. I would expect to see the word 'BRONZE' and/or a mintmark on the edge.

      Is this the case?

      Regards,

      Rob

      Hi Robw

    9. Be wary of all items "rare" that seller. Do not buy anything!

Fortunately, the photos are clear that these items are fake. But he manages to fool many people. He is careful to leave the item "PRIVATE" when the MV.

Since when I started collecting, I've seen, selling a dozen of Siam and Cubam Vic!

Note that all Ribbon MV, the same for all medals Vic.

There is no limit to the dishonest.
