    2. After that fascinating post by vatjan back to my"ordinary" pieces. Again NIGERIA - this time the awards of the Armed Forces: Bravery Awards in their order of precedence: - The Nigeria Star - The River Niger Star - The River Benue Star - The Nigerian Eagle - The Distinguished Service Medal And two LSGC Awards: - The L S and G C Medal - The Forces Service Star These awards were instituted on 20.09.1965 and made by the firm of Toye, Kenning and Spencer Ltd, London. In the photo you can see: - the golden "River Niger Star" - the silver "River Benue Star" The reverse of each is blank.
    3. I can show you a lot more stuff from Nigeria (Medals & Decorations) or change to another African State. But if it becomes boring, please let me know Greetings eitze
    4. THE ORDER OF THE NIGER Here?s a Commander`s Cross in case of issue by Spink & Son. It`s the civil division and the reverse is blank. First the case.
    5. Another order THE ORDER OF THE NIGER It is also divided into two divisions: civil and military - and the only difference is the red stripe in the ribbon. This order was also re-instituted in 1977 and comes in these classes: - Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger - Grand Member of the Order of the Niger - Commander of the Order of the Niger - Officer of the Order of the Niger - Member of the Order of the Niger - First Class (silver) Medal of the Order of the Niger - Second Class (bronze) Medal of the Order of the Niger All classes were produced by Spink & Son, London. Here you see the Second Class Medal of the military division. The reverse is blank. Greetings eitze
    6. @ Rick and stogieman thank you I`ll post pictures of the case and the restored bar when I get the delivery ! Greetings eitze
    7. The Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria: Here we have the Member and Officer classes of the order. Reverse is blank. Left to right: - Member Military Division (red stripe) - Member Civil Divison - Officer Civil Division The next will be the "Order of the Niger". Greetings eitze
    8. Hi stogieman, I`m the "lucky bastard" who got the cross This time I was successful, after I`ve tried it several times in the past. The exact numbers of Honour Crosses are: - without swords: 233 - with swords: 152 That makes 385 together - not easy to get one Last year in the Thies auction a similar piece (without case) went for 850 Euro plus charge; that makes nearly a Thousand Euro !!!! But I am not so interested in the case. As you might know, there were no specific cases to Waldeck decorations - that means no Waldeck imprint on the lid. I do need the cross to complete the following medal group. Greetings eitze
    9. Here`s a close picture of the Bronze Medal. All classes of the order are made by Spink & Son, London. More pictures of the of the Officer and Member classes will follow! Greetings eitze
    10. @christian thank you for the kind words NIGERIA: The Federal Republic of Nigeria issued two orders: - The Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (senior order) - The Order of the Niger Both in a civil and military division, which differ only in the color of the ribbon. Let`s start with the first. Re-instituted in 1977 it consists of the following classes: - Grand Star of the Order - Grand Commander - Commander - Officer - Member - Silver (First Class) Medal - Bronze (Second Class) Medal In the picture you can see both medals. The Silver in the military division (red stripe) and the Bronze in the civil division. The reverse of both are blank. Greetings eitze
    11. Forward to Nigeria. Here`s another court mounted group. Left to right we have: - Republic Medal - General Service Medal - National Service Medal - Defence Service Medal The first is a medal to commemorate the first 10 years of indepenedence and the last 3 were awarded for service in the cilvil war - the so called Biafra War 1966-70. More Nigerian ODM to follow ( if you?re interested). Greetings eitze

    15. Katanga - the second The order consist of: - Grand Cross - Grand Officer - Commander - Officer - Knight - Bronze Medal Here you can see the Bronze Medal of the Order. The revers is also blank. 1000 medals were made in behalf of the Katangese Government. Because of the short existense of the state and the years of civil war in the Congo, all Katangese ODM are very rare and hard to find. http://www.pictureupload.de/pictures/22040...Br_VM_105__.jpg Greetings eitze
    16. Another treasure from Black Africa for the Gentlemen The Independent Republic of Katanga which exists 1960-1963 awarded a Order of Merit in small numbers. Here we have the commander`s cross of the mentioned order, but beware it is a COPY: You can see it on the green rays. They lay side by side and not one above the other. (Hope you understand and sorry for my bad english ) The revers is blank. According to Ivo Suetens in his work on Katangese ODM, there were only 75 Commander Crosses made by a firm in Belgium !!! http://www.pictureupload.de/pictures/22040...Komtur_80__.jpg Greetings eitze
