Looks like the usual 'salted" artificial/chemical patina applied to cheesy base metal..... dull grey? I'm thinking like NOT 800 silver, NOT 938 silber.... more like 00000000000.0000000000001 silver!

Hi Paul, your 2-place bar could be as simple as a WW1 Civilian recipient of the Prussian War Aid Cross.... as a civilian, no Honor Cross.

Then you have a problem again as the threads used to sew the ribbon to the bar is the same as the swords, is the same as the (wrong) St. henri medal......... I'm telling you, this one is bad. This style of Saxon frack I have never seen post 1935!

2 Things with Bob's clasp. The center looks nice, bright and original, as good fire-gilt should... but you're missing the rather obvious burnishing/wear to the highpoints of the frame. My experience has been with these that a faker isn't going to bother slapping on one....

This bar is not really overlapped, per se... more of a very complicated folding that I have only seen a couple of times..

We've only seen a few examples of these oversized swords, but they sure are nice. There is a Bavarian one floating around, I don't remember who bought it from me.... same big trapezoid styled bars and actually has a pair of swords from the BMVO4 mounted on the bar!! Will try and dig that photo out tonight too.

Yep, the early (non-zinky) ones are the nicest for 3.kl. The Second Class with the red enameled cross is pretty spiffy looking too.

We have a photo in the archives of a fellow strolling down the steps of a church after his wedding and he's wearing both "classes" of the AFK... will try and dig this out tonight.

These are around Chris, usually in nice double-boxed shape anything under $75USD would be a great price.

If you look very closely, you will see that the same bright purple thread that was used to sew the swords onto the ribbon has been used to sew a rather beat-up St. Henry Medal suspension ring inside the trifold. I'm not buying this as a period-made bar for that reason alone. There are abvious other "issues", but this is the most important one. Not one Saxon (or a Duchy thereof) would have mounted a Saint Henry on the wrong ribbon, or in the wrong precedence. I could accept that it was simply missing a SEHO RK1wX but for the matching threads putting it together. Notice how in the seller's photo, the SSHM is very carefully covered by the neighboring pieces! By chance? I think not!

In addition to these, I have seen this maker on many of the earliest examples of the "Other Ranks" pre-1913 Long Service Schnalle. During WW1, they were a heavy marketer/maker of the "I gave Gold for Iron" medallions. All very high quality pieces.

Hi Marshall, yes, very nice and real bar. Typical Godet work/backing. Glad I decided not to bid at the last minute! One of us would have payed a lot more!

Again, same here with this one. the pix of the medal do not have the clarity needed to really see what's what. As an aside, both boxes looked OK.

I'm afraid with those fotos there's no way to be 100%. I cannot see any of the detail I'd like there to be. It might be there, but not in the pictures being offered.

Ahhh, he didn't forget about us. Seems that sometimes the award system for Soviet Commanders in WW2 was on a "gee, what mood am I in today" once it was kicked upstairs. I also find it interesting all the levels of "management" these citations went through.

I agree with Tom... you'll see this unusual tri-folded mounting on many, many Saxon Veteran's Organization Service Medals.

I saw this one too and my sentiments were the same... Nice original bar that has probably been futzed with... I'd still love to have it in-hand though, just to take a really hard look at the spange!

Now that's interesting.... 2 very different places and men but very similar "make do" efforts! I've only had one "conversion" and it was a jeweler-done 1870 EK2!
