Now, to my very uneducated eyes, I thought the 2 OGPW's were OK, the star OK, but not the medals.
How did I do?

And his final lot that I thought was interesting. Pair of medals, old style suspension but wrong discs (??), no enamel and book looks like it was soaked and new names/numbers jotted in to match the 2 crappy medals?? Sold to (different) buyer for ~$260. I didn't think these were right at all.
What am I missing??

OK, so I've learned a little...... no where near enough....... and again, I see very early & rare medal in what looks like way beyond usual Soviet quality/finish and it's a pretty rare medal. Even without the chains. Closed just under $700 to (big surprise) same bidder.
What am I missing??

Now here's where things really made me sit up. Looks like screw-post (??) Red Star, very low number. As I flipped around this star went from ~$200 to a GRAND, where it sold. Again, same buyer.....
what am I missing??

Same guy had this one, the regular (??) screw-back variation. I thought this one looked pretty good... with my only question being the nut looks a little large? Sold for under $300. Same buyer as above.
What an I missing?

I don't know Soviet stuff, but the endless slavish devotion of The (Truly) Evil Ricky has me wondering what am I missing? Now I recently cruised arounf eBay and saw some interesting pieces. here's an early style suspension OGPW 1. Klasse. Apart from the obvious enamel damage, this piece went for a fraction of what I have seen similar pieces (asking prices mind you) on dealer websites. Keep in mind these are not mine, just lifted from eBay. The piece looks pretty good to me. the suspenion ring on top looks right, number in right place, looks like good engraving. The piece sold for under $600
What am I missing??

Hi Ed, I agree. Clearly the jeweler/outfitter had no clue what he was doing. This poor soldier probably dropped his nice private-purchase piece off and said "I'd prefer to wear this on the bar" and this is where it ended up. In someone's "whoops, sorry" drawer and forgotten for ever and a day. They were actually meant to be worn on the bar and we see no shortage of variation on that. So far, we've seen on medal bars:
Plain ribbon, no TWM
Ribbon w. TWM mounted by sewing, slipped through the pin assembly so it could come on and off and my personal favorite (on my desk as we speak) Mounted on Medal Bar ribbon and big honkin' safety pin soldered to back of TWM and then jammed on ribbon!!
There was certainly no shortage of efforts by the soldiers themselves "to make it fit"! Can you just imagine how incredible foolish the guy who did this felt when the soldier returned for his "prize"?? Incompetence for sure. The one I have is jammed on the bar and covers the Liaket medal next to it!! (and has a kyffhauserbund on the left!!) Talk about "anything goes".........

Of course, I am torn as what if the new bar really belonged to this guy?? He made the new one (minty fresh you see) to replace the old one (minty fresh you see) because of the boo-boo in mounting precedence........... Or, maybe I have a basement full of elves churning these out on demand...

Be Careful what you ask for Marcus, this is a serious disease you're contemplating! ;>)

I dunno guys....... I'm thinking this was a real boo-boo of the period. Not some hack after-the-fact screw-up!

Well, yes, generous in that you should be able to buy a replacement piece loose well below $100. The double ringers are available, here's a similar bar that arrived today.

Here's an unusual little Saxon group with a neat 3-place rolled lapel device!

Here's the ribbon bar of Saxon (and then WW2) General Stengal. Ted has this one now.

Hi Chris, welcome back from your trip! Awesome display of Brunswick pieces..., I like the earlier styled case to the Honor Cross. They did seem to have an affinity for odd style/opening cases ;>)
Now Post #18: Bavarian.......................... Right?

That Oldenburg bar is pretty nice too!! ;>)

Hi Heiko, very nice & thanks!! I especially like the last group with all the bars!

Wow, a $100 credit on another bar is very generous. I still think the better alternative is replacing it. One HHK is the same as another... I think you will be hard pressed to find someone capable of the repair and probably not real happy with the results....

Hi Daniel, thanks for bringing this detail forward!

Hey Guys, absolutely the place to talk about these. You can always comment in the "show your ------ threads"! Even I was recently fooled by some blurry photos of an 1870...... and evn in hand I had to toy with it for 2 days before I really made up my mind.
As an alternative, feel free to start a "Let's study the new prinzen fakes thread" as well.... whatever you guys feel the best way to discuss it is fine with me! More power to you!

Well, I'll be the "Non-Typical Male" and gleefully proclaim "Nice Rack" and NOT be referring to a woman's body or a Male Deer.
