Now, the fun part....... the RAO Medal mounted is pretty darn hard to find. The Lubeck is a typical "Radiator Paint job" now confirmed as WW1 era....... and the Gold (gilt) Sax-Altenburg is pretty darn hard to find as well. Note the classic weird 1930's ribbon on the Sax-Altenburg piece........ you can be assured that this is one of the imperial ribbons that is period, but will glow like crazy under UV light! Just a case in point that there are period pieces that glow!

A brief stop at The Evil One's abode today resulted in some quick scans of the mail that has been piling up. Thought you'd enjoy some of these!

Notice that his EK2 is mounted backwards! I wish someone could offer up some type of factual accounting for this oddity that we see again and again. I've heard all the stories......... I wonder what the truth is? Why did these guys do this?

Here's an interesting foto of a WW1 Observer in a DLV Uniform. Mailed in 31 December 1934 for New Year's 1935. Think he can be ID'd using O'Conner??

Interesting Danbiel. Wish I could find the darn thing... my office has 'swallowed it"......

Nice stuff, anybody have a Mecklenburg one?

reason I ask is I have seen several of this type of award that actually bore the Juncker mark below the crown, not just the mark we usually see on backing plates. that one has been so heavily reproduced I have shied away from these for a very long time.

The odd thing is the reverse chiffre looks darn near perfect, while the body looks rather cheap/cast....

Well, it would seem we have something new to be concerned with.... there should not be a decal-like outline around the eagle and I don't think a ~3g. difference in a gold cross to be acceptable.... Not sure where to go with this one....

Hi Daniel, I think we should leave them as the discussion is certainly pertinent!!

The same holds true of the Prinz Alphonse Award (the one we usually see as a schnalle)... along with a multitude of Bavarian shooting awards given out by the Crown prince. Having owned several Bavarian groups with these awards and documents in them, I can assure you many of the recipients of these considered them quite "official"

Interesting that the finish in the scans looks similar as well.......

The top example, last photo is very close to this one... which I felt strongly was a Juncker-made piece as well! these additional examples tend towards a little more refined/what I would expect. You know me, never say never, but the earlier posted examples sure looked clutzy/crude!!

........ wondered when that photo would appear....... maybe show them the "bigger picture" eh?

Thanks Brian, excellent explanation. Now, to all, be careful, there's no shortage of fake PLM's floating about with "chased" lettering.... in fact, this is often pointed out by the sellers as some sort of "authenticity guarantee"........... Have not seen it done as skillfully as the piece shown by Claudio. Interesting with the gold (hollow) oaks... that's what I thought we would see!

Well, I felt right about everything except the 4500-......... If Ed's pricing estimates are accurate, as a group this puppy was worth a substantial sum more, but I can't afford to lay that kind of cah out for the moment and just didn't feel right bidding on it as a "dealer" either. My hope is some Brit collector just won the lot of a lifetime for himself...........

Hi David, I agree with Antti....... that's a very odd and unusual piece...... where did this one show up??

No, I did not see anything that would have been a 2Xset, just the cluster of 3 to one man....... all for sale as individual bars.

For the benefit of all...... could Brian or Andreas give a brief explanation of the term "chased lettering"...... we might have some Ladies & Gentleman viewing who are not familiar with this term as it applies to orders. Thanks!

Here's an image of the reverse. These were stripped off a uniform and found as shown. If somebody only found the top row, one would think "not a chance"....... I simply don't automatically start thinking "half a bar"... "The Evil Twin" is better at perceiving this than I.

As an aside........ these small sew-on, half-height bars seem to be a bizarre, but occurring "fashion statement"... here's another example of a 4X4 set I have available.
