As an aside......... kind of depressing scanning through my Saxon archive folder.... you would die if you saw what used to live with me :speechless-smiley-004:

Here's a Second Class example, no swords. Once it was here too!

The only other case I ever saw was this RK1....... the price was obscene. It was real gold. I still get moist thinking about it.......

Reverse of the RK1wX......... how stupid was I to sell this!

Here's a superb example of the RK1wX in silver gilt, ca 1916-18

Reverse... the ribbon was correct WF, but in GK width!!! It was used like a lining to the case. Very intrigued by this, I was!

Cased White Falcon RK2wX. Black case, no fitted tray, no markings anywhere on the case.

Hi Jaques, nice crosses. I prefer Juncker, but the quality of these is very nice as well.

Yes, as Ziggy Marley said: "I axe many questiones"

Hi Chris, I don't think there was anything official about it.... some guys just took the time and expense to mount everything they had. I've seen photos of guys bedecked with shooting prizes and tucked amongst them will be a single 1870/71 KDM, or an EK2. Very bizarre, but as "civvies" I think the "anything goes" mentality took hold!

it is surprising just how "cheesy" these 1930's versions are.... Painted with what looks like little kid modeling paint. The enamel is nice, but the finish on these... YUCK!

This is a great thread in the research forum, check it out!!

yep, a few years back you could find one on every major German dealer website... not anymore. The word slowly leaked out I think and they just went "poof", off the market. The thing that is never seen is a case for the RK1, RK2.... I had a cased second class, but there was no way of knowing if it was correct or just stuck in there somewhere along the way. Will look for pix tonigh!

Great stuff guys, keep it coming!! Craig, welcome to the forum!!

I'd agree with Rick, most of the photographs I've seen are "Just won" poses.... I have not seen many "formal" pictures of a medal bar with obvious WW1 awards and an EK2 in the button-hole.

No, but the swords were not the same as these.

I agree, much more akin to a dove.... this is also one of my favorites. I've only had 3 2.kl, had one 1.kl. stupidly, I sold it. Probably never see another 1.kl.
Believe it or not, a cased Grosskreuz set showed up on Manion's and went for under 5K... the German buyer resold it in Germany and was able to purchase a rather nice automobile for himself on the proceeds....... that should give you an idea as to where these are!

And, just to help you research aspirants out....... the REAL clue here started with the Wehrmacht 25 Year LS Cross!

Oh yeah, as an aside... the W?rttemburg piece is rather unique. The swords and body of the cross are a one-piece item that neither of "The Twins" has seen before... AND the center chiffres are real gold...... someone had this puppy made to spec!
I will let "The Evil Twin" explain the significance now discovered with his fondling of this exceptional, matching ribbon bar! :excl:

An interesting Pair of 1870 Crosses
in Germany: Imperial: The Orders, Decorations and Medals of The Imperial German States
Posted
I had this pair briefly...... I sent them back to the seller who was (and still is) one of Germany's pre-emminent Mecklenburg Collectors. He was most insulted by my disbelief that the Meck Kreuz was not so good..... curious if anyone else has an 1870 Meck. FFK2 to show....... It's never sat well that I was never really sure if this was good or bad.... a gut call, some help from a friend in Germany and back they went.....
