    1. Kev what you saw on the Belgian medal bars, could it have the one for the Policitcal Prisoners etc issued by Belgium, it's a silver cross with a silver P in a black background and blue and white striped ribbon (I've one on the Belgian forum on a bar some where) This is much earlier than the above cross which is perhaps of the cuff from memory 1980's issue ?

    2. Nooo my friend you didn't put you foot in it, you are right as far as I'm aware they don't actually fake the base codes as of yet or if they do I'm unaware or haven't spotted them even !!!

As far as the raised KB and D&B codes go that is. If you look on the fake case bases of the box part (not insert award base) you often see pencil, ink or 'biro' numbers...with the 'exception' of the biro marks you find these numbers on fake and good cases so there is some effort on the part of the fakers, but no raised in the mold kind of numbers (like I say that I'm aware of, so you were correct there)

    3. A D&B double hinge case, very nice !!

      Dan,

You have to be careful even with cases that have base codes on them. A few years ago a load of bare Luft bases were found in Berlin and sold on the flea markets, hence I dare say they ended up in fake cases.

Also whom ever does it, bases are swopped from original cases into fake constructions of a similar case and the bad into a good case.........this has confused alot of collectors and uh hum the odd dealer !!

    4. The packets, well in honesty I couldn't say, it looks similar to a much smaller version I'm aware of for minature medals (factory small packet with no designation on it and made of VERY think paper) but don't pay any heed to that.

In my mind only, I'd be sceptical of them to being of the period.........but they could well be perhaps, this is one for the collector alone to be happy with them or not (unless theres some envelope/paper items collectors society in the USA where guys could express more on these or you actually had them date and ink tested which would be more than they are worth.........lets say, fold !!!), be they factory sorts or retail of some kind ???

Given the facts above, I'd contemplate perhaps they could well be packets used by the dealer........just my hunch.

    5. Hi Dan,

A nice lot you have there !!!

All packets look genuine, no problem there. However though the 'Field Issue' packets ? I'd like to see the reverse of these if possible please.

My interest lays within packets and cases of medals really if it seems an odd request ;)

I'm always dubious and interested in so called field issue packets, I'm sure such paper wares existed in a non conventional sense via all matter of means, tissue paper to a field postage package for arguments sake.

Even with the type face on the packets, sure it's possible that a clerk in the field typed these up.

It's also possible on the home front that some Ldo outlet/retail supplier had some oblivious packets in his shop and had a few packets typed up as there was a shortage in his retail packets or other forms for some unknown reason. This I have encountered when the odd cellar has been opened up in Berlin (due to floods most of the time actually) and I've been able to see first hand what came out.

A multitude of thought and reasoning.

It's also possible they were typed up in Germany post war for sale to collectors or just after the war for Allied troops stationed over there or even in the UK or America. Perhaps even they were typed for the inventory of a former collector ? Whats the history behind them ?

I don't know, but would be interested in seeing more of them. Odd how both of different classes are in the same packet and have the same type set on the packets perhaps ?

    6. Yeah this was my research on the WAF; 621 BASES and only this 621 etc is only for those marked KB, when marked and are used for the likes of EK1, KVK1, Ost Volker and a couple of others.

D&B is the other 'maker' marked version, they have a another digit and letter system and in alot of instances the construction parts of the box are marked with different codes, for top and bottom etc

643 (KB) is not for wound badges, thats for certain other awards, the odd Luft and even Spanish Cross (latter case)

629(KB) is for the Wound Badge, in both the thicker 'shaped' base and the latter more flatter thinner marked base again when marked of course.
