    1. Sweet cross Bill, or as Mr. Havercamp might say, "That's a peach". These so-called hybirds or transitional crosses have a very unique place/niche' in the collecting community. I know that Bill has been a fan of these for some time now, and I have to admit, the more I see of these type crosses, the more fascinated I am with them. I'm fortunate and lucky enough to have one of these that is a Deumer marked ekI cross. I can see someone collecting only these, and with time, luck, and money, could put together quite an interesting collection from several makers, coming in both marked, and unmarked versions, and both pinback and screwback versions of these little beauties. In this thread alone, I've seen two that I would be very happy to have in my collection.

    2. Hi,

Thanks for the link Andy. Interesting reading! I don't recall seeing any other non-LdO marked TR period 1914 EK1s. Must have been a Mayer quirk.

Of further interest (for me anyway) is that I can not match this TR Mayer core with any other 1914 EK1 cores, TR or otherwise. Looks like I'll have to find one of these for myself to study!

      Regards

      Mike

If you find two, then let me know.

    3. If the cross is not identical to the Zimmermann displayed here then forget about it. Godet and Zimmermann had a reciprocal agreement for Iron Cross manufacture and it is fairly safe to assume that Zimmermann produced the RK and EK1 supplied by Godet to the PKA. Had Godet produced these crosses, they would be very common today because of the reuse of Godet tooling and dies in the 1960s and 1970s.

      PK

Agreed! I don't see how anyone couldn't agree with the above statement. If so, I would love to hear the reasoning.

    4. I guess I missed that discussion, but it's starting to look like Duemer. Is the hardware on these similar to Godet? Thanks for jumping in here Micha. Any other takes on this?

Similiar to Godet, but the hinge is a little different. Godet/Zimmermann have very distinctive hinges. I too, now believe these to be early Deumers'. Very nice pick up.

    5. @Steve-yes,it's the IKEA display! I had planned it complete different, the '39 placed by makers and groups-the same with the '14 EKs.But I never realized that I've got so many floating around here. Not enough space at all,I think everything that isn't an iron cross has to disappear.....

      Micha

You've got to be kidding me! With so many floating around, may I suggest that I, and others, take a few of them off of your hands. Of course, as a favor to you. We wouldn't want you to be burdened with where to display them, and I have plenty of display room.:cheers::cheers:

    6. Micha,

Great cross ! congrates on getting a really hard to find piece.

      Russel,

How's that want list coming along?

The list is like the EVEREADY bunny. It just keeps going, and going, and going. Seriously, this list is what keeps me going and going. I collected some things in the past, where I had every just about every example known to be made. Then I got bored, and usually sold it. With these crosses, particularly the Imperial First Classes, it is probably impossible for anyone to ever have every maker and variation (although Micha is well on his way  ). That's the main thing that keeps this so interesting to me. It's the quest that makes it so damn fun. After all, don't we all want, what we can not have. :cheeky:

    7. Ahhhhhhh! You taunt me again! :banger: Now as I'm fixing to go to bed and about to lay my head on my pillow, I think of pillowbacks, and instead of visions of sugar plums in my head, it will be Godets! A long night of tossing and turning trying to figure out how and if I will ever land a pair like these. Thanks a lot Greg. :violent::violent: Seriously though, I never get tired of seeing crosses like these. :jumping:
