    1. This badge came from a nice estate of an officer who served in WW1 in the AH army and in WW2 in the Hungarian army (end rank Colonel). In the estate are also items of his stepson who graduated from the Ludovika Academy in 1937.

I do not know this badge so I cannot establish whose it was.

The badge was made by Morszanyi in Budapest, also well known for the WW1 Kappenabzeichen.

      Who can help?

      Best regards, Erik

    2. That's correct Erik. A BS could be awarded for Valor, Service or Achievement during and in a war. If awarded for Valor, a 'V' device was added to the ribbon, for service/achievement, no device or in the case, an oakleaf for each additional award up to the fourth award, ribbon always counts as 1st award. With the award of five, it's a silver device. Oakleaf for individual awards, stars for campaigns.

Was reading the citations for 2 bronze stars from WW2 on another forum. Both without the V so with an oakleaf on the ribbon.

If you read the citations it makes you wonder what you had to do to get a V added in that time?!

    3. Hi, who can help me identify this eagle.

It looks French Napoleonic to me but htis is not my field of expertise.

Further I am not sure what the purpose is, shako or giberne maybe?

And from what I found online silver is not standard but this is clearly real silver with a hallmark.

It is about 7 cm high and wide

      Your help is appreciated!

    4. Here some nice ribbon bars I picked up yesterday.

The group starts with the Leopolds orden followed by the Iron Crown order.

Two variations of the same group - unknown officer.

The single ribbon has a crown device - probably not linked to the group.

What is the significance of the crown device?

      Regards, Erik

    5. I have recently found these two eagles.

Both are about 7 cm high and wide.

I do not collect French so I am trying to find out what these are.

The one on the left is silver and has a hallmark on the left bottom.

      The main questions are:

Are these indeed from the Napoleonic period

Are these meant for a shako or a giberne?

Are they for specific units? (with googeling I found similair ones linked to the young guard?)

      Regards, Erik

    6. The silver cord around the neck is normal in Hungarian Hussar pelisses of which I know a bit more.

That way the jacket could be worn as a sort of cape on one shoulder and the the cord has at the end a loop that can be opened, it has a special button for that as well. With the Hungarian versions no rank insignia were worn either but the lacing on the back would give the rank away. In this case it would be a 2nd lieutenant in Hungary but as said it defintely has nothing to do with Hungary :)

    8. Hello Veteran,

      Many thanks for the info!

What are the "improvements" you see?

I am not sure if it is ok to talk value here - if not please delete this post - but could you give an indication of it's value?

Condition is so/so but lower ranks items from that period are hardly ever very good in my experience :)

      Regards, Erik

    9. Some time ago I received this Hussar Pelisse - I collect Austro-Hungarian items and the person thought this was a Hungarian Hussar item. Well I am sure it is not Austro-Hungarian but I am not sure where it does come from.

      My thoughts went to France.

So please who can help me with the origin of this jacket.

In style I would guess early World War 1?

      To a rank below officer.

Some buttons are marked Houquet Michenet Paris and seem to be either silver or silverplated

      Best regards, Erik
