    1. Correctly without the 4-days marching medal as it's only authorised in the military to be worn in the year the participation to the march took place.

      Hendrik

      Hello Hendrik,

this is indeed a nice bar, but the 4days marching cross was allowed to wear permanently as is any other medal of the Netherlands,

as it's also a royal decoration in the netherlands.

Your description of the restriction is for the belgian medal of the march of the IJser if I'm correct.

      Kind regards,

      Jacky

    2. I'm not sure that it's the legion of honneur, as it seems to have way to much points on the cross....

The legion d'honneur had 8, 2 on east, 2 on north etc etc

But this cross appears to have also points midway of it.

The man appears to wear it in the first place, either he's french, but he doesn't look french, or he's portugese which would be consistent with the ribbon frames which are clasps, then the question would be what kind of portugese ODM would look like this?

But yes, they're indeed mounted in the portugese way, with the clasps.

If the 4th one would be the crimea medal, then should be there a clasp on the medal going in at about 45 decrees over the ribbon.

Great dane, the second medal appears to have a star and moon suspender.

      kind regards,

      Jacky

    3. Well Surprising??

The medaille militaire isn't that surprising, it was a medal with very strict rules, thus quite highly prised!!!

But then the ordre d LA lib?ration still really should have precedence over the legion d'Honneur!!!

      Kind regards,

      Jacky

    4. I think that the top row bar is quite strange,

      but also the others......

    5. nice grouping!!!

I would just keep them and hush up about it!!

      It's a really nice grouping.

      Kind regards,

      Jacky

p.s especially the victory medal is nice, 3 clasps and 10 stars.

he even needs 2 batons on his ribbon bar, however, it bears only 3 stars each, so he might need 5 batons to denote every thing??

Could you tell me what the stars are denoting??

    6. I had been waiting for the right moment to post this picture.

      It shows four Civic Decorations:

The Civic Cross for Long Service in the Fire Department and Home Guards (watch the suspension!)

Unknown Civic Decoration, I guess the Civic Decoration for acts of Courage and Devotion with the Fire Department or Home Guard

Civic Decoration for Acts of Courage, Devotion and Humanity x2

Any of you guys have an idea on the service and if my guesses for these Civic Decorations are correct?

      Hi Eric,

      Nice pictures!!!

I think that the second one from left isn't a civic decoration, it appears to have a thick darker center stripe which could be the Leopold II medal.... But then.. It's in the wrong place.....

However I really think that it's not a civic decoration based on it's ribbon.

      Kind regards,

      Jacky

    7. Really nice medals!!!

      I like it...

I have only the ribbon of the Fireman and civil guards, got it with some deal and just allow it to sit just in my box...

Concerning the Leopold II ribbon, I think it's the knights grade as the medals had a small piece of metal, illustrating the medal, in the color of the medal.

Also are knights of Leopold II very very common for veterans of both world wars.

      Kind regards,

      Jacky
