Hello Tony
Wish I could help but I cant really. I was told as a kid to avoid felt helmets like the plague only had three in 40yrs off an on. A couple of points is it made from wool and soft? originals have a smell hard to explain.
We have to face a fact replicas have been made for 50yrs to my knowledge so today it is difficult and most have original hardware ta boot.

Great photo Robin !
it's interesting how bright look the helmets ( from the right side ) - probably it's the effect of the direct sun light ... or some kind of light feldgrau or maybe unusual color like .. sand /clay ?
with regards
Kornel
Dirt to match the terrain can anyone read/translate the back of Robins photo?

Nice
I was once told these containers had their origins in W1 a friend had one he claimed was Imperial, heavier made with thicker steel but I've never seen them in period photographs.

Found this interesting link in me wanderings. Chip is that right the Alpenkorps didn't come into being until oct/nov 1914? I never knew that if correct.

Is this decal original? I notice the white beyond the black boarders, the helmet is a Quist M40.

Plate and chinstrap are reproduction so is the body as far as I am aware the Imperial Empire never made them with leather trim either. The realised price is fair enough for a replica imo.

Chis,
I think your "angry" e-mail was an attempt at humor, albeit a failed one.

Maybe he was from Yorkshire? many old timers don't go for sarkie humour and are still at entry level ie: a custard pie in the face and the fickle finger of fate award.

Well, it seems that chocolate has joined the ranks of Black Adder in causing controversy regarding how to commemorate the First World War.
I actually know a gent who wrote a book on The Truce he studied it for years nicely done vid but its documented the Germans initiated the meetings in No Mans Land not us British.
I'm not sure if I'm in favour of companies using this sort of thing in adverts or not, Americans call it generally a 'cheap shot' I think.

I apparently screwed up the ad as well offering free shipping I ended up with about 15 bucks after fees, it hurt but I hope the new owner enjoys it I thought those navy straps were rare? It's one of the earliest dated items I've ever owned, anyway whatever.
Cheers

Mark I've seen it to on leather goods it was a couple of m16 helmet chinstraps I had that were riveted and stitched, guys told me what it mean't a few years ago but typical me I've forgotten. I don't think its in reference to a unit though.
