Another thought....
Can we not assume that the Germans are practicle minded enough to have known that it would be very difficult to fire a rifle with one of these? Especially the first model.
Would that maybe point to it being originally being meant for troops that do not shoulder a weapon... i.e. MG troops... then later being adapted for use with a rifle?
Chris read Innovation in the German Army 1914-18 by Gudmundsson in short order the rifle became a side arm pretty much.

Eric,
I can solve your problem. So you don't have to split the spade and cover, I'll take them both!
Chip
Sorry Chip the cover has gone I can't hold on to items it seems,,, always been my problem I have to buy something else to keep the spark glowing. Love soon turns to just another item on a shelf call em short romances lol!
I still have the spade I may need it !!

Thanks Chip I think there is a diagram of one in a maxim parts schematic as well came out of lock I rebuilt.
Speaking of firing pins I once approached a specialist machine shop we used in car racing if they could make me some pins and gave them an example to study draw up etc. They could $320 each on a run of fifty, including hardening of course! the price would come down if I ordered more than a hundred!!

Gents with the infantry boot some soldiers pulled up and folded over the trousers, I do it at reenactments if you get rocks/stones etc in your boots and it doesnt take much its blue murder getting them off, otherwise sometimes you have to lay on your back and shake your legs in the air to get the crap out. lol!

Milorad Dodik, the president of the Serb-controlled republic of Srpska, covering nearly half of Bosnia, in which he declared, “the shots fired 100 years ago by Gavrilo Princip were not fired at Europe, they were shots for freedom, marking the start of the Serbs’ fight for liberation from foreign occupiers.”
What an irresponsible statement you cant go round just bumping people off.....Gents its only a 100yrs they were murderers plain and simple come on, they killed a woman,,, a Lady simply escorting her husband on a visit its disgusting and they also seriously injured members of the public. Sorry I don't get it passage of time means nothing to me.
I would have liked to listen to the music though its lifes blood imo the whole world loves music.

I've never seen the WW1 ones with a trigger finger thank you for showing. I took extra pics of mine to add, the canvas jobs are just WW1 equivalent of disposable gloves imo some people call them 'Gas Gloves' etc I doubt it and they are not much help with hot weapons either for that they used asbestos.

They are like the weather on ebay pricewise, quite scarce but people don't seem bothered,, in general ebays are mainly hunting grounds for helmet hunters.
Eric
ps I've a fellow after my ersatz cover only, he already has a steel spaten I hate to ask but need some advice Gents what would you do? I paid a lot for it but that's my problem. I'm getting a little tired of collecting and just want to concentrate on my mg gear,,,,,thoughts? I'd appreciate it.

uumm depends Chip I received an item from a good friend in Germany. he recognised my interest in Imperial German and sent me an item from his uncles family that had been with them since the first war.
Maybe he didn't think it so important and didn't include the soldier info in a note, its unfortunate but I don't feel like making a big deal over it so it ends with me. btw had me thinking last night those leg socks were all the rage in the 70's my girlfriend had a pair, my mother saw them and made a pair to help her arthritis from one of me old sweaters lol! the old dear.
Has anyone a pair of those thick ersatz EM issue inked stamped jobs mine were stamped and dated 1917 blimey they must have been 8 feet long plus made from that wonderful weaved paper cloth, dealer said they were rare at the time I thought it dealer blah blah and let them go later, I've spent the last 14yrs regretting it.
They were straight Chip so no 'L' 'R' and tied with thin white cotton tape.
Cheers

Picked this awhile back I love caps like this I can bury me eyeballs into the material and the threads used, please don't call it 'salty' its insulting imo and I'll hate ya!
I've a couple of 'minty' but like these the purists overlook them, pity and prices tend to be low for youngsters starting out before insanity takes over.
