That's very good but old boy's I talked to joined up not wanting to be left behind mates have a strong pull, togetherness, a chance of a trip abroad, pull birds for a leg over even new clothes and get away from horrendously dull lives with future prospects...zero or a lifetime of same.

Most would save up for a couple of years their holiday if they could afford such a thing being a trip to Blackpool and for the middle class the wonders of Scarborough always with the family people in the south to get away from the filth and smoke more than likely probably dreamed of a short trip to England's 'Disneyland' Brighton lol!

Of course they were very proud of their country but it wasn't the main reason, that came later as part of emotional remembrances.

My view is us Brits should never have gone in meant the death of England we never recovered. The pollies and generals should have been hung drawn and quartered at the tower and dumped in the thames, their noggins on display dangling from tower bridge.

Regarding socks you know of wrapping the feet in linen squares? were they offical issue at anytime during the war?

I have the whole set I still think there is some parts missing maybe it was my imagination at the time running wild!

Many many years ago I spoke to the curator at the time of the Imperial War Museum London he told me they had problems with copyright issues but they advertised when episodes were to be shown in the museum theatre. At least every 6months me and a couple of chums would call up asking when it would be available on video betamax..lol!

Yes every sunday on BBC TV I remember.... that Christmas my mother bought me the book I was over the moon they were eating Christmas dinner I wouldn't put the book down...Dad quote: "there's something wrong with that lad" still have it I was 12yrs old the cover has suffered a bit.

I love that shade grey too its classic M16 nice helmet. Sometimes you think you have a 'greenie' until the label is off you can peek under the liner band too it never went away or stopped.

They were winter jersey wear dated 1905, I wanted them but seller doesn't take bids from the US or paypal whatever I'm not spending $42 on a money transfer on something worth $80-100 anymore, sod it!
