Donald,
Simply a nice early Brazilian pilot badge. I believe it is a 1930s model (have not had clear regulations to tell you exactly when your model was current.) The standard WWII model was a more tradition "wing" without the hanging device.
This is the 1941-1947 Air Force Badge.

Very nice thread, including for brazilians, like me.
There is a medal exactly like the second model, but without the suspension rings. I don't know if there is a factory made or a factory not finished work. Some of these came out to the brazilian market on last 3 or 4 years.
Cheers.

This is an Army pilot badge, from 30's untill 1941, when the Air Force was created as a Force separated from the Army. The pilots had to decide if they would join in the brand new force or continue in the Army.
Nice badge.

The information posted by my friend Lambert is correct.
There is a second type of this medal. It's a later one (60's), but much more rare.

643 COMBAT CROSS FIRST CLASS AND 1.117 SECOND CLASS WERE AWARDED TO THE BRAZILIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE MEMBERS, from 1945 to 1961.
As the initial lot did not last the total, at least 2 more lots were done. So, we know the existence of 4 different types of this medal.
Nowadays it remais as the most important brazilian army decoration.
Cheers.

Later this medal was awarded to the Sargeants too. I do not know exactly when, but I think in 1946.

Hello guys, note that the medal designed on diploma has the wire suspension type. I have seen about 10 Vic medals here in Brazil. I think 4 of them had CASA DA MOEDA signs, but most part of the rest do not.
In 10 medals, I didn't see any with the cylinder suspension, however I believe it can exist and is a original time period medal (20 or 30`s)
Cheers.

Hello Tod, exactly. In 1947 was added a subtitle at the bottom os the clasp, ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL. This model last until 1954, when the name of the country changed to Republica Federativa do Brasil.
This wing you are talking about is a 1941 model too. I do not have the regulation, but I have a 1942 advertisement of the Brazilian Air Force to brazilian peolpe, explaining the brand new force and its clasps, uniforms, etc.
Soon I will start a thread about the 1941 and so on wings. I have almost all of them
Cheers.
