Hello there,
What do you all think about this? Would it prove hard to find the owner?

Actually most Frankensteins are made out of common stuff thrown together to "look great" but make Richthofens out of Gefreiters. That's why there's a good chance yours was a window display advertising sample. Godet's brochures--as do many outfitters--often showed "sample" medal bars that no live person could have actually worn.
There is and always has been a profound difference in collecting tastes concerning minis in the U.S. and Europe. American collectors have far too long considered these tiny magnificently detailed enamel jewels as if they were nothing more than girlfriend charm bracelets. Possibly because so many are Frankensteins and might have been assembled for that purpose in Year Zero + for the occupation trade. There is therefore a great gap in how American collectors value these and European collectors do. Very few American collectors would have any interest whatsoever at ANY price in a stripped no-awards minis chain. Regional markets!
Actually gents (and stray ladies present), have we EVER seen a celebrity chain? I don't think so. They are most often long forgotten obscure officers and civil servants, as a search on names:
Brenken, Göring (no not HIM!!! ), Höne, Schack, von Stuckrad, (Freiherr von) Stumm, and Sympher will reveal from the back pages. UH OH! my compadres I now see didn't post these back around December 2010. NEw threads started. Anyone with similar groups that "should" be identifiable I'd advise posting as new separate threads, since this thread has grown unwieldy in its immenseness.
Got a couple of fine armpit to belly tiny treasures coming up at our next Traveling Museum conclave... so Watch This Forum next week!!!
Have seen a few miniatures from "Celebrities" yes. Not chains that I can think of, but still miniatures. von Bockelberg's PLM Godet mini that was sold by E-medals is a good example.

I can just think how I would do if I where going to do a Frankenstein chain. I would buy miniatures made by the same maker (fe Godet) and assembly them after some semi famous officer and then try to make some bucks out of it.
The problem with that way of thinking is that this combination does not fit any person who I know (or anybody in the thread about the chain)...
The only IRL pour le merite chain ive ever seen so its hard to see how they did it.
The loops are identical also. Swords or crown = a round ring. And the Iron cross and the PLM looks like small brothers of the Knights cross/grand cross and the big version of PLM with this oval loop.Paul Wood: The value of the PLM alone is over 2000$ so 500$ is not a realistic idea at all. I wonder if you would even get the empty chain for that money.

These two came in the same package The Godet piece is in the not so common size of 11mm (10.81mm), but the other 8.5mm with the KVK1 isn't something you run into every day!
Really nice Godet pieces you shared Peter!

But if he wore the EK1 on his dress he would not need the Pour le mérite on the chain?

Well, I can't find the information I just got on Wikipedia.

The Stahlhelm was an unofficial Freikorps reserve force in early 1919 in Berlin and served as headquarters guards for General Maercker's Freiwilligen-Schützenkorps, when they were assaulting the Neue Marstall where the Volksmarinedivision were holed up.
After the arrival of several other Freikorps in Berlin in late January and early February 1919, the Stahlhelm went on the inactive reserve list and were relegated to their main status as a veteran organization.
Thank you! That is really cool new information!
Again Thanks!

Thank you alot Westfale! Mr. Stephen Previtera is researching that matter right now. I will get back with the results!
Marrauder:
Thank you alot for your observations, probably the chain is toyed with (and therefore ownership could prove hard to find out).
I can't understand how someone with the second class of the Iron Cross also get the Pour le Mérite, the House orden of Hohenzollern but not the first class of the Iron Cross. And if he did so, why is'nt the first class on the chain?
Very strange indeed.
All the best

Hello everybody,
I collect Stahlhelm items from time to time. I would like to ask someone that really knows the answer of the question.
Was Stahlhelm an Armed freecorps unit that fought against the Soviet Bavarian republic? Or just an veteran organisation with just flags and boots?
Best regards

Godet Chain with the House orden of Hohenzollern, Friedrich Orden II class, Iron cross (probably first class) and Pour le Mérite.
Most likely made during the world war I time.

Dennis, it's the German website, Sammlergemeinschaft deutscher Auszeichnungen.
Link to the object?

Thanks Sascha!
I cant understand E-medals comment at all, since they sold an identical Godet PlM mini with a larger one. It was like I felt all the time, just one person told me its a Fake and its Barry on E-medals. The PlM is an original.
McSwiggan:
Well I don't know if there is just a slang for the longer heads, but as you say the large sized Pour le merites was not Crowned in that way. But check the pictures of mine, the two ones and the one from E-medals and compare it to the Spanish fake in the post above and you will see what I mean with "crowns".
Best regards Dennis

Here is a thread about the very same chain. Let's face it, it was probably not an original set, its possible to buy just the Godet chains without any medals on it from André Hüsken for example.
Barry on E-medals tells me by e-mail: This is indeed a "Cheap fake". Allthough he has sold an identical PlM-mini made by Godet with a large PlM (the latest picture here in the thread).
Some guy named Marshall/Biro says on Wehrmacht Awards forum about this very chain: " In all respects this chain is a beauty.. and the mini PLM is exactly what I would expect to see. Very very nice."
Im feeling very confused indeed, the PlM is what I've learned that the Godet species looks like.
Dark blue enamel, eagles with longer heads (or "crowns") than the spanish fakes. the text is bolder and very clear even though that the size of the damn thing is just over 15 mm x 15 mm.
Real godet pieces bellow, with the differences.
Spanish copy below. Notice the faint colour, the short eagle heads. And the badly cast wings on the eagles. The cross is also more Narrow and the size about 22 mm. Text is thin and badly cast. small bubbles in the enamel, also not a smooth surface.

Big thanks!
I won't sell it, rather exchange it to some Swedish NS-item.
