For the missing ribbon I would assume the blue one for the Long Service Decoration.
Could you show some pages from the books?

I do not think that members of the Volksturm were promoted, per se. I think that the were appointed rank and etc based upon past military experience or leadership position in the community... Maybe someone who knows more and add on to this, either way?
You´re right considering the initial mustering, but I was thinking of the later service.

Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse and a Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz. He was KIA in april 1945, most probably as a soldier in the Volkssturm.

Does anybody own a Volkssturm Solduch with an award or promotion entry?
I´ve seen a few Volkssturm Soldbücher but award entries a hard to come by. So if anybody does own such a piece, please show!

A few more of mine:
This is quite a late example (for awards handed out in Germany before the Anschluss of Austria) issued to farmer Joseph Tolksdorf. He was born in 1884, served with the artillery 1904-1906 and in WWI from 1914 to 1918. He got the Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse and his last rank was Sergeant (german rank)

You´re absolutely right!! The Ehrenkreuz is also a good and interesting item, considering the points mentioned by you, for younger collectors who have to carefully calculate with their pocket money.

I think in such an extraordinary case a little cliché would seem rather fitting!!!

Glad I could help!
You´re right, the awards and award documents are really cheap, but the boxes are really really expensive.
I think one can buy up to 10 crosses with accompanying award documents for the price of one box!!

Was his Militärpaß corrected on some other page after he returned from the dead? Must have given him quite a "strange" feeling to see his own death notice and his Militärpaß listing him as KIA. The feelings his family went through .....

Those are outstanding pieces of history! I always love to see rare combinations of different foreign awards!
Reminds me of the British soldiers awarded the Südwestafrika Denkmünze with the "Kalahari 1907" battleclasp.
