Next we have a selection of rank badges. First up is a WWII era RCMP Warrant Officer 2nd Class rank badge. Recent rank badges for a Corporal, both in yellow thread and in wire thread. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126678704772.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126678706278.jpg

This is a beautiful framed bullion badge. The photo does not do it justice, the badge is over 5 inches wide so the whole thing is very impressive. I understand it was only made available to serving members of the RCMP or RCMP veterans so it is quite a scarce item. Apparently it cost them over $100 to buy it in the 1980s.

Here are different versions of the badge for a rifle marksman. As before, bullion is for full dress. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126678470557.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126678471526.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126678472475.jpg

Next up some different versions of the Marksman's Badge. These are awarded as a result of the proficiency level achieved in annual qualifications. For the pistol a score of 260/300 in needed to get the basic badge and a perfect score of 300/300 is needed for the crowned Distinguished Marksman badge. Simialr scores apply to the rifle as well. Here is a selection of badges for pistol marksmen. The current version is an automatic pistol design, the earlier badges (pre 1996) are in the design of a revolver. Bullion badges are worn on the full dress uniform and wire thread or yellow cloth badges on the other orders of dress. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126678442755.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126678444175.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126678445237.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126678446324.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126678447384.jpg

Next up we have a patch for the RCMP Venturer programme. This is a Scout type programme for ages 14-17. The next two patches are from K Division, which is the Alberta Division. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-12667830798.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126678314453.jpg

Most of the balance of the collection arrived the other day so here are some more items. This is the Stetson that is worn with the full dress tunic in post #20. This is the maker mark on the leather lining. I beleive this dates it to before the late 1960s since they switched to a Canadian maker about that time.

Mike, Many thanks for the suggestions. I have read Beyond the Chindwin but it was about the 1st Chindit Expedition and Fergusson was a major attached to a different regiment. The recipient of these medals would have been on the 2nd Chindit Expedition in the column lead by Fergusson so the other two books you mention could be useful.

Not me. I already have a cased Sacred Treasure 1st class with certificate that was awarded to a British diplomat in the 1960s.

I think it is a miniature. These are very hard to find and are often as expensive as the full size medal.
