QUOTE(Alex K @ Oct 8 2007, 19:30 ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>ayone comment on the authenticity?
Hello,
this is a cross made from Weiss & Co., M?nchen. And this manufacturer never
made one of this class
Best regards,
Chris
Hello,
that is a very interesting item.
At first, I saw the Weiss swords and thought, Weiss hasn't produced this class with crown.
The cross was made by Hemmerle, the last edition for silver gilt medaillons. You can see the thicker border on the backsite of the lower arm. The first class crown/swords was produced at the beginning of war with the early variants. A silver golden variant isn't known. I think that isn't a fake of the 80's, that could be a postwar production by Hemmerle.
Here a original first class http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/43620-what-do-you-know-about-bavarian-mvks-and-mvos/?p=565525

Hello,
here my newest entry.
A Hemmerle MVK second class. The agraffe is stamped with GH 900.
It is a MVK, second type from 1905 till 1913 without swords. It is made of silver.
That's the reason, why this MVK looks so good. It was found by a treasure hunter in the ground.
Now I'm looking for a ribbon.

Kgl. Bayer. 3. Feldartillerie-Regiment Prinz Leopold
Unteroffizier Jakob Weigl; EK2, MVK3krx, Militar-Verdienst Auszeichnung, Verwundeten Abzeichen
Hello,
thanks for showing us these deathcards.
It is very sad to see, that most of this young men died at the end of war.
Intersting are the professions of the soldiers "Hausbesitzerssohn" = son of a house-owner,
"Zementwarenverfertigerssohn", that is very difficult to translate. I think it was a son of a worker, who pave out or firm up on building sites.

Hello Christian,
Idon't know if King Ludwig designed this decoration, I've never heared something about this.
The marking EQ is Eberhard Quellhorst II ( son). Quellhorst II produces from 1866 till 1901.The successor of Quellhorst was Weiss.

Thank you very much I paid 4 euros for that I made a great deal. When you ever come to Romania i will give you a drink.
Hello Stefan,
thank's for inviting me to a beer.
Romania is very interesting for military research. In WW1, the bavarian army fought several times in Romania.
You can still find some bavarian of the WW1 in Romanian flea markets?

So i found this ribbon at a collector's meeting near my town,in Deva and a friend told me that it's from a Bavarian Decoration,it is true?
Hello,
that is a bavarian ribbon for the MVK`s and MVO`s given to non combattants. In german it is called " Band für Kriegsverdienst" or "Beamtenband" given for officials at home.
Here a picture which shows the three kinds of MVK/MVO ribbons .
The left ist the ribbon given from 1866 to 1914. The middle for combattants since 1913 and the right for non-combattants and officials

The only one of these I've ever seen was in Nuremberg in the 80s. I found a most wonderful militaria shop in the "old city" as I remember us calling the area around the castle. The shope owner had an amazing selection of Bavarian decorations with I think almost all classes on the MVO and MVK. Does anyone on the forum live nearby this place? I don't know if it still exists.
I've always wanted to collect these but I only come across the most common classes.
I would have never thought to come to such a rare MVK.
By a happy coincidence I've come to it.
We're not talking about the money, because it was not cheap, but I'm very happy.
This cross had been for long years in a bavarian collection.

Hi Andreas,
Thanks. I'll be sure to get a picture a soon as possible.
Do you know of any auction-listings of a 2. klasse Ritter? All I could find was the one sold on the Thies auction last December.
Best regards
Christian
Hello Christian,
sorry, but I have no auction catalogues of the last years.
This class is very rare und often faked.
regards Andreas

Yes, but I'm at work for a couple of days. This is the best I could do at the moment. I'll update with better pictures at the beginning of next week.
Thank's, but on this picture i couldn't identify a maker.
I'll wait for better pictures. The lion looks like the Hemmerle-lion.

I've recently aquired this. I believe it to be a nice 2'nd Knight m/1866? Has the rolls survived? Most likely a swedish recepient.
Best regards
Christian
Very nice Ritter 2. Klasse.
Does the ring have any markings?

By the title, nothing!
I think I have one of these but sadly the lower not very interesting end of the scale according to a contact on WAF.
Jock:)
The late Leser MVK is not rare and therefore not very expensive, butdetermines the winner was very proud of it.0 -
Hello,
nice picture of "old men".
I think they are Landwehr-soldiers. They use the old Mauser-rifle 88.

Hello,
that's very interesting. I've heared about two different variants, but I haven't seen this differences anytime.
Are both variants regular decorations, or is the thinner kind a production for trading?
thank's

Hi,
a question, Did Leser make these up to and after 1945? If so, was it possible that they made replacement pieces like this in the 30s or 40s?
We must differentiate between private purchase (for veterans) and fake (to fool collectors)...
Best
Chris
Hello Chris,
this cross is very rare. About 150 awardings. The MVK was a returnable decoration, if the owner died ( till 1934).
The enamel of this cross looks very bad. In my opinion, it was a third class, new gilt and the medaillon were new enamelled.
I don't know if Leser sell this crosses after the war, but it is possible.
This postwar decoration looks like Leser, but I have no acknowledgement for it.
The swords are equal to the swords Type 2.

My MVK2X is on a bar in the Bavarian bar thread... So, here's my MVK1XKr Comments as always welcome, especially ID of maker. (My new Epson was happy to do Bavaria first )
The manufacturer of these """" 1. class with crown&swords""""" was Leser.
It is the latest type of Leser, used for MVK1X, second and third classes.
The MVK1Kr X was not made oft this Type 3.
Sorry but your MVK is a fake.

Hello,

Hello,
here two bars of my collection with Luitpoldcross 40 years.

Hello Dante,
that is another intersting bar. The MVK is a late Hemmerle ( 1918). The rank of this NCO was Offizierstellvertreter. Can you show us the backside?
The Hochzeitsmedaillie was coloured golden ( that was also allowed).
The bar shows the FEK (Frontkämpferehrenkreuz), so it would be assembled after 1934.

Spolei
Do we know (a) why a coin was given, rather than a medal, and (b) why the recipient was entited to wear it like a medal? Was it issued to all those who were entitled to a Jubilee medal or did it have a wider circulation? Sorry for all these questions but this seems like an interesting anomaly.
Hello,
This medal should shared to all troops. which had Bavarian King Ludwig III as owner.
The end of the war prevented the deal out. In 1922 the coins were found and given to Kronprinz Rupprecht, who spend this medals after the burial of King Ludwig III to loyal bavarians. It was allowed to fix this coin to the medal bar, as a civillian bavarian decoration.
Sorry about my bad english, but it is difficult with less knowledge and a bad translatorprogramm this special themes to translate.

Finally with an Epson scanner I can add the "best" German Imperial bar in my collection... A twin to Ulsterman's in Post #44
Nice bar of an Vizefeldwebel.
The MVK is a late production from the manufacturer Leser.
the servicemedal is silverplated.

Hello,
nice item, what you got.
I think this price with a long ribbon is ok. Some years ago, I bought such a decoration without ribbon about 50 Euro.
