      Hi Gents, Chris and Spolei...

      Hi Spolei

      That's awesome, thanks.

I never thought I'd have a name to go with this little tiddler !

I don't suppose you could tell me if this is from a particular period? Or were they widely issued over time?

      either way

      thanks again

Hi Chris, the more I browse members posts the more I accept how little I know. I never risk buying a 'real' pricey thing. Most expensive one above is the machine gunner cap badge for which I paid 8.50.....

I often take a gamble with unknown badges because (to borrow your phrase) my eye is caught by one or two. Even if I recognise them it has to be on the cheap because of all the copies

I do like to find job lots and go through them.

i buy an awful lot of stuff like this (below cost 8quid)....

because I spot a couple of pretties...

      Dear Mattyboy

We can see an Iron Cross 1st class (OEK 1908), which is clearly sown onto the uniform! You don't see that too often, furthermore there is a mecklenburg militarverdienstkreuz (MVK) 1.st class (OEK 1350), the badge on the left looks a bit similar to the Prinz Alfons erinnerungsabzeichen and I don't know the badge on the right. It looks like something that could come from the saxon/thuringian states.

      Kind regards, Laurentius

That is not the Prince Alfons badge. This kind of badge could be for a wedding-jubilee, but I don't know which.
      This is the Alfons-badge

Another Bavarian chain from Weiss & Co which recently landed in my collection. Most of the miniatures are rather common items but I'd like to get some info on the "Ehrenkreuz des Ludwigsordens für 50 Dienstjahre" which were awarded from 1827-1916. I have not really been able to find any info on this one in the sources I have, I did find one in gold in an older Thies catalogue (the Blass collection) valued quite expensive which could indicate that this is quite rare. Would any have some info on award numbers etc on this one? It's a rather nice fire gilded miniature, this didn't came out well in the scan.

      Enjoy!

      Lars

      What a brilliant chain.
A long service officer who had been in three wars.
He got no fighting-award like a MVO or a iron cross.
The rare Ludwigskreuz was given for 50 years of service in the bavarian army. The cross had to be returned after the death of the bearer. That is one reason, why this cross is so rare. This cross was also given to bavarian officials, priests and other persons in a equal rank of an officer. The non-officers got a golden medal for 50 years of service.
