    1. Whilst looking for something else, I stumbled across this gem: https://lawlibrary.org.za/akn/za/officialGazette/government-gazette/1993-09-03/103/eng@1993-09-03 Apparently the Republic of Ciskei thought it worthwhile to set out in chapter and verse precisely what they thought terrorism and subversion consisted of!
    2. Thank you, Archie. The Legion of Merit has proven quite difficult to find, this fills a few holes...
    3. GRRR, I have to work tomorrow!!! Thank you, Archie. Tucked away for later when the Marking Monster is slain and there's time to play with medals!
    4. Ciskei Police Medal for Maintenance of Law and Order
    5. You're welcome, Greg. I always tell students that Wikipedia is very useful especially if the article has good references/links, but never to rely on it. If you have any suggestions as to how mine can be improved, I'd be grateful.
    6. Hi, Gordon. Wikipedais suggests this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orders,_decorations,_and_medals_of_Bulgaria#People's_Republic_of_Bulgaria_(16_September_1946_–_10_November_1989) - although I'd ignore the honorary titles and prizes, go straight from the Hero stars to the Orders & Medals below. Lukasz suggests this: https://www.medals.pl/bg/bg3.htm My attempt is here: https://medals.org.uk/bulgaria/peoples-republic/bulgaria-pr-text.htm
    7. A lady after my own heart... even prefers a side-saddle, so do I 🤓
    8. You are very kind and generous... and I much prefer having images I know I may use rather than scavenging from sales sites and the like. Now many auction houses have given me the run of their catalogues, but a lot of South African medals don't make it as far as European (or American/Canadian) auction houses!
    9. Those are wonderful, thank you.... should keep me out of mischief for a while.
    10. The SAPS have kindly put images and warrants at https://www.saps.gov.za/about/about.php#menu9 Click on the menu item 'Medals'... the link has a habit of taking you to a list of the most recent recipients but you cannot get a link sprcifically for the medals page.
    11. Germany no longer issues a "Wound Badge" (Verwundetenabzeichen) - the last was the 1957 "De-Nazification" of Wound Badges issued during WW2 (apart from those awarded during the Spanish Civil War, which were not permitted to be worn in any form!). Czech Republic: Wound Medal (Medaile Za zranìní), instituted on 16 December 1996.
    12. Fascinating, and the amount of detail you provide is amazing, thank you, No One.
    13. Fantastic stuff, keep it coming please...🤓
    14. Dearest Archie, would you happen to have higher quality images of any of these?
    15. Ooh, what a delight to find after another hard day's marking. Fair put a smile on my face!
    16. You do pretty well... If you copied the link off their website, it's them that messed up. If you tried to link to the file on your own computer, what you need to do is to upload it to the board as an attachment, then we can download it from here. Sorry if I confused you. Mind you, I am one of the ageing members of the forum, too, I just happen to work with computers 🤓
    17. Sweden: Defence Forces Medal for Wounded in Battle (Försvarsmaktens medalj för sårade i strid). Instituted on 25 March 2011 and awarded in two classes - silver to armed forces personnel injured in combat, gold awarded posthumously to thoe who are killed. The ribbon is red and black - symbolising blood (red) and sadness (black) - the medal's obverse displays a broken sword surrounded by a laurel wreath, and the three crowns of Sweden, the reverse is inscribed FÖR SVERIGE MED LIVET SOM INSATS.
    18. The UK has the Elizabeth Cross for relatives of those killed in service, but nothing for wounded/captured personnel. They used to issue 'wound stripes' but have not done so for a long time.
    19. Ah, so they messed up the link? If a link starts "C:/users..." it is on the computer of whoever is trying to post a link rather than in a publically-available location on the Internet. All bookmarked for after "marking season" at the university where I teach (computer science if you haven't guessed) and I finish my deepdive into South Africa, so many thanks for all this excellent information. Indeed, thank you for all the posts you make, you've been shedding light in areas relatively unexplored. Now, I'm interested in orders, decorations, and medals... but quite enjoy looking at badges even so 🤓
    20. Not a particularly good image, but here's the Bophuthatswana Police Medal for Combating Terrorism
    21. Another new King Charles medal for those interested. Instituted 20 June 1974 as the Queen's Gallentry Medal, and now under a new name to go with the 'new management'... there's also been a change in design, seeing as it had the name of the award on the reverse.
    22. Belgium has several awards for prisoners of war, escapers, and those who got deported, interned, or forced into labour camps during occupation... but no "enemy marksmanship" awards for wounds sustained in combat (there is one for civilians injured by enemy action....). Come to think of it, the French had a medal for escaped prisoners of war too. I do have images of most of these, I'll dig out the high quality ones for you to use in your book. (I also have the French escapers' medal somewhere, picked that up when I still collected 'things' rather than information!). Quck question, Antonio - are you interested in wounded/killed/imprisoned awards in general or just those which are still available for award right now? A lot of the Belgium stuff is tied specifically to the World Wars.
    23. Nice specimen with bars, Marco, thank you. And yes, I did know you were a recipient yourself, Archie.
    24. Korea Medal
    25. Ah, my cup floweth over, more beautiful images. Put up an example of the South African Police Medal for Combating Terrorism yesterday. This one I found in a Morton and Eden catalogue (the kind souls have given me the run of them for the website), unfortunately the ribbon is a bit grubby.
