Has anyone else anything to contribute on this subject or is it a topic of no importance with not

more to add on the subject than Gerd has.

I still find myself rather curious about these maker marks especially as I have never paid much attention to the subject myeself.....

To calrify, Order of Red star or Order of the Great Patriotic War (1985) are not exactly in the same range as top soviet or imperial awards. The pieces above are very common!

For the sake of someone starting to collect Soviet ODMS, the these 2 orders are prices at without any thought and are NOWHERE near being worth $122 (OGPW85) and $94 (ORS).

However, as Dave did rightly point out, sometimes even the more common numbered award may have collectors willing to pay an outrageous price (compared to the market) if they are looking for a particular serial number!

I do not think you are missing anything at all. I think the seller probably is!

And what he is missing is the 'small' difference between an OGPW 1985 and any of the previous types. I have seen 1985 OGPWs sell at over $30 plus post and I already ask myself .... Why???

Same with the red star really.....

At least as far as I am noticing. The last T6 red banner of labour with extra zero precceding serial number..... I did not pay much attention to that and well valued it as a normal ORBL .... but it did sell at around $200! But nothing much to miss on these....methinks! .........

And another thing...some sellers also may think that a fancy price makes for a fancy piece!

I presume the double ribbon for Victory over Germany is for the 25th anniversary as well.

Gerd's post 21 has the same double victory ribbon. They sure are not Glory and it seems from previous hand painted bars that the 25th Anniversary Badge was often included. I guess its just a case of artists' interpretation as I do not believe there was ever any official ribbon for that badge!

The 25 year anniversary did turn out to be a bit of a runt.....and in a way, 25 years is a big year! I never really considered this badge as a medal ... but seems increasingly that lots of Russian did!!!

Liberation medals are Warsaw, Prague and Belgrade only

Vienna, Budapest Koenisberg and Berlin are Capture medals.

Although having said that....it is a very thin line that separates Liberation from Capture...... and i guess some never knew the difference.

I thought he liberated Warsaw.......

But a point.....the medals you mention are not all liberation medals.

Liberation medals are Warsaw, Prague and Belgrade only

Well I've seen the odd bit of British Headgear amongst some collectors back home. But by and large, I clicked on this thread with the very mistaken expectation of tommy helmets and caps with perhaps the odd 1 or 2 'pieces de resistance'!

What I did see here was pure quality that supercedes by far any private collection that I have personally come across in the last 17 years!! Each piece is a 'piece de resistance' in itself. I just cannot express enough admiration at the quality of your collection!!

As a scuba diving fanatic in the warm blue seas of Malta ... (that was before I stupidly draged myself to the mountains of land locked Switzerland) .... I find this thread most interesting! I doubt that I can however contribute much to the topic of gold and medallions as most of the acceccible wrecks in the area are indeed WW2.

It still, makes some very very interesting reading.... The pics in post 4 set my heart racing. I will never forget my first wreck (a humble tug boat).... A distant dark shadow which, within three or four odd fin strokes revealed itself as the haunting shape of the wreck.....

I get gooseflesh remembering and still feel the same each time I approach a wreck. Close to 2 years without a dive....... ...depressing!

Looks heavy enough to hold down a Turkish flying carpet.....if u ask me.

I had some "Rocket Practice" cylinder cases from the early 50s painted the same colour.... Around 3 feet long and lined with cardboard inside. I still wonder what these were ..... .Painted same colour with yellow/white print. If only I had kept some photos!!

Ok Christ..... erm Chris.... this "holy grail" and "3 day stuff" is confusing me

26 + 3 = 29th...i.e today.... u got around 15 hours till the stroke of midnight and we will all turn into very curious pumpkins.
