Bingo! :-) Of course, the embarassment was the way his efforts helped turn the tide in the Afghanistan war.
Its ironic though to think how this "investment" would later turn round to bite the US in the backside. For those who may not have seen the film Charlie Wilson's War....I strongly recommend it.

You are on the right track.....but I am looking for a person and not a weapon...you're very hot on the trail.....

Nobody?! ok...
Question 18
My effort, drive (and some bucks) would single-handedly help create a cyclone that caused the Soviet Union some embarassment.
Who amI?
What is my story and what was the embarassment caused?
Good luck!

Are we already running out of steam??

Good to see there are still several ideas and suggestions being made.
And of course the treatments proposed may also apply to other collectible items.
However, and if can be truly honest, in a case like this, and unless the EK is part of a group or special for any other reason (specific maker or specific history attributed to the piece in question), the best form of restoration is to simply trade up! Possibly at the cost of only a few dollars you might be able to upgrade your EK without the need or risk of messing it up.
Yes..yes...this is simply passing the buck... and if you, like Harry Truman believe that the buck stops with you, please disregard this advice Bit its just a thought and perhaps, the easiest way out!!
Alternatively, be more careful when buying a collectible, with the intention of buying once and buying well! (assuming you can resist a bargain!!!)

Question 18 is up for grabs. If Hauptamann does not ask the question he'll have to sit the next one out....perhaps someone new might try to ask the next one......

The Avers guide is actually a very interesting piece of literature and I would recommend a copy for your libraries. I think mine is the number 6 edition issued in 2003.
Its really depressing when one refers to the catalogue prices and see how our ODMs once went for a song. In fact prices remained pretty stable until the early 2000s started to see a sharp increase in their values.
Good investments? Almost bulletproof as a collector friend of mine once said. But for collectors, this has spelt the end of many a collection.

Hi Vladtheman,
In fact the ribbon bars make it even harder to trace due to the absence of serial numbers - one can therefore only speculate and try to put the pieces together. MMM and ORS given as service awards, one can only try to assume what was awarded for combae and what was awarded for long service. In any case, this bar definitely shows a mix of the two. However, I am still surprised how there are no higher orders which then contrasts with the homeland 3.
Any one else please feel free to chip in....
