    1. Alan,

I can hardly write English so I trust the German speakers that state it is past tence, that aside as Chris hi-lights it is still quite interseting and obviously a labour of love for someone at some point.

I think you need to try and establish if what is printed is fact because if it is it is still very useful for reference.

You may be able to pick up the torch where someone had to let it go for what ever reason (look at the recent turn of events with Rick), could keep you busy for a while!

      Just a thought.

      Jock:)

    2. Thanks for the direction,

I am near Hannover so I suppose its within boundries.

I was thinking K might be Kiazerliche like H is Heers in the TR stuff but I know you guys know your stuff here (please ignore my spelling as I can't in English never mind German).

Unuasual item to survive either way I think and some clown threw it in the spermull.

    3. Guys,

Would it be acceptable to add to this post my WW1 portrait finds rather than starting a new topic every time.

As I am sure a few of you may know my focus is WW2 but I often turn up first war stuff, I also can spot the unusual on uniform pictures and will try and keep it to the more interesting.

I know the most of you here are WW1 focused and take your hobby very seriously and hope that some of what I turn up may be of use to you.

Alternately is there a specific area I have missed that is for this sort of post?

Here are a couple from Monday, I am still going through it all and in the interest of sharing there are a couple of doubles at the top free to a good home, he looks like an artillery boy.

I like the funny protective jackets on the soldiers at the bottom.

      Jock:)

    4. Guys,

I thought this looked German in cut but then the shoulder boards, collar and the obvious maker being French does not fit.

Any ideas about time period, have the French copied the German WW2 Kradmelder cut and style?

      Thanks

      Jock:)

    5. Adler 1,

I don't think a bright white six is very tactical?

Perhaps used for training purpose with the squad numbered off?

I am sure I have seen in some of the 'Riebert' type of books troops numbered off in this fashion to demonstrate location and function of the soldier at various stages of battle drill.

I am sure it was in an artillery type service manual and I am buggered if I know where it is now, somewhere in the 'borg' that is my cellars.

Just a thought and not based on any hard fact just faded memory!

      Jock:)

    6. Eric,

Just a bit of fun! No grudge, life is too short?

I will take your word for the meaning, that is what you called me!

I always tell the truth, whats the point otherwise?

I don't know for sure that the group was larger but if these bits survived you wonder where the rest is and I know the guy I got it from and he is ecanomical with the truth occasionaly because of his line of work.

      Just my paranoia perhaps!

      Best Regards

      Jock:)

    7. Patrick,

I am being distracted right now just talking to local Germans, an American 4 engine bomber came down nearby also a 'nachtjager' all within 2ks or so, I am busy trying to find out more!

I have also attended many an 11/11/ 1100hrs at our local Becklingen war cemetery, having walked the length and breadth of it, the whole thing is sad especially those killed in the dying days but the other thing that stuck in my mind is that every so often you find 5 or 6 stones grouped closer together and then when you read the caption you reallize these are crew mates from downed planes buried together!

One of my favourite films still is the 'Memphis Belle' the part about writing the families always gets me!!

They must have balls of steel or just no choice either way they did it!

      Jock:)

    8. I find this incredibly moving-'Requiem for an Airgunner' by R W Gilbert, who was in Bomber Command in WW2

      The pain has stopped,

      For I am dead.

My time on earth is done.

But in a hundred years from now,

      I'll still be twenty one.

My brief, sweet life is over,

      My eyes no longer see,

      No summer walks,

      No Christmas trees,

      No pretty girls for me.

I've got the chop,I've had it.

      My nightly ops are done.

      Yet in another hundred years,

      I'll still be twenty one.

      Patrick

      Patrick,

I hope he survived but it is very much to the point, many didn't I suppose.

      Jock:)

    9. John,

Thanks for the link, I do really like 'lexicon', it is great for tying down the detail.

17 Regt is local to me, sadly there is no name with the album so what you see is what you get so to speak, there are lots of pics but the later part of the album is the sort of pics one would buy at the 'kanteen' perhaps and as such no so interesting.

I always thought those guys wore the skull and cross bones though?

      Jock:)
