Hi All,
Does anyone have photos (front/back) of ribbon and mounting plate suspension on original circa 1840s or early 1850s 3rd class orders?? Thanks!

They could be suspended from either the St Vladimir or St Andrew Ribbon.

thanks, Paul! On what basis?

Gentlemen,
This past weekend, I viewed an old collection that contained a good selection of Boxer Rebellion material. Amongst the medals was a Russian bronze issue that was suspended from a ribbon from the Order of St. Vladimir. Is this sort of thing correct and if so, what was the criteria for changing ribbons?

Hello All,
Imperial Russian isn't my thing, but this happened to drop in my lap so here it is for your consideration. Obtained from a vintage jewelry dealer, the screw post has been (sadly) clipped off and a pin brooch expertly soldered on (a long time ago, I should add). Thought I'd run it by the experts here for feedback.
piece is highly vaulted...

thanks, Peter! A solid direction to go in for sure! I'll start searching for period illustrations now!

I know this French gentleman (and veteran) who has been specializing in French badges for decades, maybe he can be of assistance to you.
His name is Denis Lezin: http://dlezin.free.fr/
Thanks! Hopefully he speaks English!

Hi All,
Does anyone have info on the various badges worn by French occupation forces in post-war Germany? Types worn, rarity, etc.?? Thanks!

Hi again Chris,
I'm really interested in the WWI aspect of these knives. There seems to be nothing written about them in the books covering WWI knives and edged weapons.

I think those are "Corsican duelling knives " or some funny name like that?
actually, Chris... these are war-time French knives. This one is etched "Le Compagnon des Tranche'es" on one side of the blade, and the other side is etched "Campagne 1914 - 1915 - 1916 - 1917 -1918"

Hello all,
I have several WWI period French 'Couvreux' clasp knives but can't find any information on them on the interweb. Does anyone have any background on these knives??
Mark~

Thanks! I suspect the medal's non-official nature has a lot to do with the wide array of variation.

Thanks! I've noticed a number of variations in design, including one type with a completely blank reverse. Are these variations in any way date-specific?
