    1. A few more pics.....

Hi,nice looking kukri looks to be and original piece . I have picked up a couple but both newer but nice. Man you could cut your head off with that. Best,Ray

    2. I don't have one in my collection but I do agree with Paul that it is genuine.

When you say you got "took" are you saying that you paid too much?

      Nice specimen regardless of price.

      Regards

      Brian

Hello Brian, yes i paid several hundred dollars, however i do believe i was set up on this with the person bidding against me. They have not sent it to me and i am wondering if i will even pay for it. I have never run into something like this and am having a hard time arguing with myself.but its up to me and i will do whats right in the long run.Ray

    3. Hi Ray; Sorry for my poor english. Images are a better explanation.

See the diference between the two crowns. The red medal with a tipical Franco era crown (1938-1977) and the white one, same as yours with a King Juan Carlos I first era crown (1979 - 1989).
      Regards.

Ok,wow i did not realize ,so the guy who sold me this either does not know what he is doing or he is untruthful-nice word.what do you think as i told him it was wrong and he got all bent out of shape and insisted it was right.best,Ray

    4. Dear Ray,

It is a commemorative medal (either in silver of lead alloy can't tell from the photo) to commemorate the silver Jubilee of Man Singh II, Maharajah of Jaipur, 1947, the obverse die is identical to that used for the official presentation medal. I have no reason to believe that it is a fake.

      Paul

Hello Paul the medal is silver but that is about the extent of my knowledge. Would you or anyone have an idea of worth? Best,Ray

    5. gongz - thankyou for your help to Ray11. This willingness to help a member is what binds members of GMIC together. Mervyn

Mervyn you have said a mouthful and as i said somewhere else on this forum this forum is the best place because of the people. Gongz thank you AGAIN for your complete or close explanation. One question is information for the Australian services like this also or is it different? Best,Ray

Well Mervyn I do hope you can read these i know the others sucked but these are not great and i scanned them and then changed to jpeg so i do hope there ok. best,Ray

    7. The curse of collecting medals from Bahawalpur is that they are often offered without ribbon, and no one seems to know where to find replacements. The other caveat is that apparently there was a firm in England (somewhere in the North?) which was counterfeiting some of these medals. In my youth and innocence ;) , I bought a couple of these, which came with lovely new ribbons which match the descriptions in McGlenahan's book. There was a thread about them here some years ago, but I don't think the seller was identified. Perhaps someone will be able to resurrect it. Perhaps it might lead you to a source for ribbon. Good luck.

      Hugh

Hugh if you know would you please post what transt.cps. means? thanks,Ray

Well all i can say is you are a powerhouse of information as are a couple of other people in this great forum. Best,Ray

    9. This looks to me like the Bahawalpur Northwest Frontier Medal 1914-1919 - Item 15 under Bahawalpur section of Tony McGlenaghan's book, Indian Princely Medals, (p. 33). Bahawalpur is indeed an Indian princely state which opted to join Pakistan at the time of Partition. It border on the Indian state of Rajahstan. I've been there once for tank exercises with the Army. VERY hot.

Quoting from McGlenaghan, it is also "referred to "...as North West Frontier Medal 1914-1918, Frontier Service 1914-1920 and Indian Frontier Medal 1914-19." The obverse is the Type 3 bust of the young Sadiq Muhammed Khan V in full dress military uniform without headdress. The English translation of the inscription is said to be, "By the Grace of God Sadiq Muhammed Abassi Fifth. Ruler of God Gifted Kingdom of Bahawalpur". Size should be 37mm. The medal is known in both gilt medal and bronze; it is unknown whether a silver version exists. McGlenahan does not give a translation of the inscription on the reverse side, which has a mounted sowar as shown in your image. The 26mm ribbon is pale pink with a 2.5mm pale blue stripes edged with a fine black line 2.5mm from each edge. The medal was designed by Spink. Naming is impressed in capitals.

Thanks to Mr. McGlenahan for his data.

Does this correspond with your medal?

Yes it sure does and thank you a whole bunch for that. Any idea where one may find such a ribbon?I must try to find that book.and again thanks.Ray

    11. Hello, just to say that if someone like me with no knowledge of Japanese medals were looking to buy one of these i would or could get badly burned and i have a feeling that no one IE ebay would give a ---- yes. So just saying try to know what you are doing before you buy. I believe I have been lucky in that i only buy from people who seem to be honest and most are honest, only takes one bad apple to screw things up. Hope I am not to boring I just had to vent. Best to all,Ray

    12. Yes I have the medal but no box and many medals to soldiers in south africa during the boer war. I just need to catalog them so I know what i have. Thou it has nothing to do with this subject directly I thought i might stick my swagger stick I got some time ago. I need someone with better eyes than me to read it. hope you find this a little interesting . best,Ray
