I thougt the Dannebrog order also at first, but the cross looks more simpel. Like the Order of Christ from Portugal..

Thanks,
I didn't realise that it was an award given in the time of Hitler. I thought that it was an imperial award.

I found a Dutch person who received a ( freely translated) Cross of Merit 3th class in the German Eagle Order on 6 september 1939. What kind of decoration would this be?

I would doubt it. He was too young (born 1911) and not a direct member of the Lippe house to have been given any Lippe awards as a child before the war).
His father-in-law, however, did. Prince Hendrik of the Netherlands, husband of Queen Wilhelmina, was born Heinrich Wladimir Albrecht Ernst, Herzog zu Mecklenburg-Schwerin. He was ? la suite to the 1. Gro?herzoglich Mecklenburgisches F?silier-Regiment Kaiser Wilhelm Nr. 90 and to the Garde-J?ger-Bataillon. He held the Prussian Order of the Black Eagle with Chain, the Johanniter Order (Military Order of St. John) and the long service cross.
Thanks for your answer !

Erik,
I was reading the newspapers in the archive and found out that the decoration was also called Black star of France. Zwarte ster van Frankrijk. I found one Police officer with a Officers class of the Star of Benin.

The bloke in the middle - who's he? Looks like he's wearing a Light Infantry tie - medals include WWII France & Germany Star, a General Service Medal with a couple of campaign bars, a Korean War pair, a post 1962 Campaign Service Medal & a UNFICYP.
The photos taken in Holland? Is he connected with Arnhem? Or a bit further afield, Pegasus Bridge?
I feel I should know this man from the history books?
His medalbar is discused here: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11116&hl=medalbar

Interesting photo. Nice to see one of the "locals" getting a few gongs from the Fatherland. My favorite shot is of a former Askari, wearing his EK 2 and a British MM from WW2. Can't remember where I saw that one.
I would love to see that picture!

Depends on the rules of the country of the wearer. In the Netherlands you wear your own countries awards first. Highest to lowest.
Next are the foreign countries alphabetically according to the French names of the countries. If you have more then one award from a foreign country then you wear them also from the highest to the lowest award.
I believe this is the case in most European countries?

Thanks for that info Hugh. I have mailed the Dutch Army Museum and the Bronbeek museum for help.

If this is the second row of a group mounted alphabetically according to the French names of the countries, why is Austria ( Autriche ) in the second row?

All I could think about is that the miniatures at this bar could be switched??
Then he might have to go to an ambassador or another official party of Iran...
Then he chooses to wear the miniature in the first place...
However as a native of germany, the german order had to come in the second place...
So.. just a bundle of miniatures put together might be possible too!
Kind regards,
Jacky
He always has to wear his own country first in a group.

Anyone with an idea about why the german medals aren't first ?

I think that the medal last in the top row is the Dutch Houseorder, ( also because of its possition between two dutch medals )
No, I think your right! So that makes the first medal in the second row not Dutch ?
