    1. To better illustrate the fact that this medal is faked I will add some pictures of the same medal but an item which is 100% OK and out of the appropriate period.

First you have to look at the embossing of the inscriptions, they are not work, and even if you would be assuming that they have been worn, the gold plating was made afterwards. But talking seriously it is obvious that a original medal was mould-copied and the freshly gold plated.

    2. Hi Luka

the order of the national hero is one of those orders where the eye is not enough (sounds like 007 ) !!

Sorry, jokes aside. To be sure I at least would have to touch it and hold it in my hand and then to examine it with a magnifying glass. Just looking at your pictures and listening to your description I would say that it is a late IKOM item. If you can examine the border and take a picture of the border would be nice.

      Hello gents,

This is an old topic but I have a question for all of you...

What do you think about this order of national hero(it weights around 20 grams, not gold, no mint marks), ORIGINAL or MODERN FAKE or something else...

    3. Hello Kevin

it's a pin of the Association of war volonteers of the Kingdom of Jugoslavia. They had a big reunion in 1931 and that was the purpose of this pin. The soldier is wearing a typical Serbian uniform with hat.

      Best regards

      Hallo Gents,

picked this one up at the weekend in the Collectors Fair, Targu Mures, Northern Romania.

I liked the look of the old soldier on the front.

Can anybody identify its purpose, and what it says on the front?

      Many thanks,

      Kevin in Deva.

    4. Hello Waldemar

I have my copy already. It has even some pictures out of my collection inside. Having a reference catalogue is OK, but I am not very happy that it is a catalogue with price list. This will result in a "harder" front with the dealers hanging on to the catalogue and not dealing each item as it is, thus regarding the state and ownership and ...... .

It was time to have such a book but without pricelists. IMHO !

One other detail: I have nothing against that the book is written in Croatian but I would have been aspecting that at least in the chapter Titles the names of the orders and medals would have been given as they are originally named in Serbian. The diferences are small but the main public will not be speaking Croatin/Serbian and then the will start giving the wrong names to the orders and medals. :off topic:

    5. This is the gold medal "Franjo Kluz" distributed by the VSJ - Vazduhoplovni Savez Jugoslavije (Airflight society of Jugolsavia). It was instituted in 1955 and was awarded for outstanding achivments and merits in the air sports domain. The name of the medal was changed in 1958 to "Zlatna plaketa Franjo Kluz" (breast medal).

The first attribution took place in 1956 and as far as known ther were only 176 awarded until 1973. From this date there are any other attribution in the archives to be found, thus we must assume that the attributen stoped in 1972. The atributtion took place at the end of the year and the sport achivements had to be of high international meaning to be taken in consideration for . Thus at leas some national record or any international title or similar.

Franjo Kluz was was in WWII the first partizan pilot.

The medal was awarde in a blue box of quadratic size without any writings on the outer side, on the inside ther is a makers mark of IKOM Zagreb stamped in golden letters.

As far as I know there are three items in collectors hands and one box. The law of institution prohibited any selling of the order.

    6. The Ilinden commemorative has indeed been the only medal issued by one of the six Republics building the Yugosalvian confederation. The medal was issued to the living participants of the famous Ilinden uprising 1903 agianst the Turks, and there were approx. 2500 item distributed. The bearers had many advantages like a full and free medical treatment in military hospital, evry year a one month free vacation in Macedonian Republic holliday resorts, 50% rabate on any public transportation and funerals on state costs. Those advantages have not been transferable on other persons or family members.

      regards

      Milan

Actually, I would like to know more about this aspect of Jugoslavian phaleristic: if the federative republics would have been allowed to award their own decorations; in other words, if there existed "Federal" and "Federative" awards.

Where the work of cataloguing for auction ends, my cultural research and study continues...

      Best wishes,

      Enzo

    7. Hello Anatoly

to me too it looks too rough ! :speechless1:

IKOM items have been worsening in quality with the time progressing but so important orders always have been checked before leaving the factory.

IMHO this is a unfinished item which "felt off the truck" (probably in the 1991 worries) and it was refurbished and finished recently. :violent:

    8. Hello KDVR

yes the box is original and the order looks OK. To be more sure I would need some better resolution pics, but as far as I can sees there is nothing wrong and if the price is reasonable this could be a nice buy.

      Best regards from Switzerland

      Milan

Gents, what do you think about that convolute? - no documents. Is that the original box?

    9. Hi

sorry for the delay, I have not read my forums ......

Permission granted to use the pics, if you like send me your email per PM and I can send you high resolution pics.

      Regards

      What a beauty!

orden_master, may I please ask you for permission to use your picture on my webpage and forum about Slovene partisans. I'd be very grateful.

This is most probably the rarest Partisan order. It was manufactured in SSSR in years 1944-1945. There was 20149 pieces made but a huge amount of them was remelted and replaced by IKOM version of the order. That's why you practicly can't see'em on the market. There was one for sell for 10.000 EUR.

      scan0003.jpg

Fantastic piece of history, would really like to buy one myself.

      Congrats!

    10. Hi Anatoly

this medal is from communistic period of the Yugoslavian red cross, the medal was given as far as I know for blood donors.

      Regards

      Milan

I like Red Cross awards.

I bought this one but I can't understand what time period is this medal?

      Reverse is flat.

    11. Hi Paul

you are certainly right regarding the fact that most of the "hardliner" collectors have Yugoslavian/Serbian/Montenegrin roots and find the reason to collect in the fact that they have a connection to the former country.

But you are completely wrong regarding the famous ANS sell in London. I was one of the bidders desperatly trying to save some of the wonderfull pieces to my collection. I was managing a package of 50'000 EUR for me and 2 friends. The result was that we bought 3 items (THREE !!!!!) :speechless:

The rest was almost completely divided in between two dealers who after the auction put most of those items on sale for double the price they have paid in London. And the realised prices have already been astronomic high.

      Regards

      Milan

My experience is that many pieces are bought by people from the former Yugoslavia our from former Yugoslavians living abroad, this certainly was the case with many of the Serbian and Montenegrin pieces in ANS I (April 2006). A few even came to view the auction. So it isn't all doom and gloom for for Yugoslavians.

      Paul

    12. Hello Owain

      grab it !!! :jumping:

This is a very correct price for such a set.

      Best regards

      Milan

      Gentlemen,

I have been offered, here in Riyadh, a 2nd class set (no ribbon or case but both pieces in excellent condition) - awarded to a Saudi - probably in the 1960's - I have already purchased some of his Arab awards. The set is the ruby version - I cannot recall the flame numbers. The asking price is SR3,800 (US$1,013) - is this a fair price?

      Kind regards,

      Owain Raw-Rees

P.S. On the above proof sheets - check the spelling of breast as in Breast star - not 'brest' and reverse not 'avers'

    13. As I am living in Switzerland, one of the mothercountrys of democracy I would come up with a wonderfull Swiss like compromise:

I think that most of the issues written before are correct:

1: I think that all pieces shown are genuine

2: I think that there has been a certain amount of converted items 2nd into 1st class, probably for various reasons like lack of money, lack of material, lack of willingness to accomplish a perfect work etc. etc. there are certainly more explanations than this

3: It is a fact that aproaching the brake up of SFRJ the quality was significantly decreasing, thus I would still upstand for the term "last issues"

4: Unfortunatel as also stated the country was run in a differnt way than other comunistic countrys and one of the favorite slogans wath "self-managment of the working class" which mostly resumed in a total chaos and a absolute lack of control. Thus also almost nada documentations and papers with details about production, number of made items etc.

Waiting your opinions about my way to look at it.

      regards

      Milan

The common situation for many ex communist countrys. In last period the quality of awards became badder and badder......
