Good evening Christian
I have absolutely the same opinion as you regarding the bad quality, it is a pitty to look at those orders, and I think that you have the right reason for this. Probably the dies have been saved from Zagreb but the know how of manufactury remained with the persons there. During the former periods all enamel work was done by IKOM in Belgrade was only the minting part of coins and medals.
Regards
Milan
Dear Milan, the cases & rolls are very fine done and really beautiful, but the orders look like very bad fakes of the old communist ones .
Why did they produce that bad quality - maybe they lost IKOM-Zagreb ?
Best regards
Christian
BTW: Does any of the numerous ex-YU-states still use the old IKOM-dies ?

Hello Roeland
the order of the Yugoslav Crown is constituted in 5 classes. The first class with a breast star and sash badge, the second class having a smaller breast star and a neck badge, the third class having the neck badge only and 4th and 5th class being breast badges of smaller size.
The according sizes are as follows:
The badges for I, II and III class are 48mm across the edges of the white cross, the cross ends bear a small ball of 2.5 mm, the ball on the top cross end is 4.5 mm. Attached to the top of the cross is a green oak wreath size 17mm high and 22mm large.
The IV and V class badges are 37mm across the ends and the tips are accordingly smaller in dimension. The oak wreath is 13mm high and 22mm large.
The breast star for I class is 90mm and for second class 75, I class having a III grade badge applied on the base plate of the star and the II class bearing a 4th class badge.
The ribbons are (dark blue):
I class Sash : 105 mm
II class neck cravat: 75mm
III clacc neck cravat: 75 mm
IV class triangular folded ribbon: 40 mm
V class triangular folded ribbon: 40 mm
Hope that this is enough for beginning, will be writing more soon about some variants etc.
Best regards
Milan
PS, could someone give me the sizes of the order?what size have the grand-cross medal and the 2nd class medal.
I noticed there are 5 classes, from which the 2nd, 3th and 4th all look like a neck cross.
What is the difference between them?
I also saw a difference between them, the 2nd class is gilt, the others aren't, is there a way to recognise them, perhaps different size?
kind regards,
Roeland

Here we go !
This is the order for merit in the field of security and defence, 1st grade

Good evening gentlemen
yes you are absolutely right they used the dies and the ribbons, the only thing that lacked was the experince in craftmanship and manufactury of orders. See my next example how crude the work has be done. Medals from this time period are pretty OK (as seen).
For the 43-2000 period should be no problem in having access to those papers, I will tell a friend of mine who arrived at Beograd just today to look what he can find.
Regards
Milan
Dear Milan,so, Yugoslavia during the (socialist) Milosevic-era didn't only use old dies, but also the old ribbons .
In the pinned-section I made a posting about YU-Awards during the 4 Yugoslav-Wars of the 1990s: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?s=&showtop...st&p=159521
In my opinion the "phaleristic-language" of these orders and medals is still communist in style and appearance.
Best regards
Christian
BTW: Do you have any access to the statutes and regulations of Yugoslav Awards from 1943 to 2000 ?

Hallo Christian
good observation, it is the same ribbon as for the old medal for military virtue.
regards
Milan
Dear Milan, isn't that ribbon from an old YU-Medal from Tito's era ?
Best regards
Christian

Always the same problem with me, I am not holding any of my collection items at home. I will have to pull it out of safe and scan. One of my biggest projects for one of the next vacations is to scan and pic all my collection including all boxes and documents and ... and ... and ...oh my god I thin that this would be my project for the next couple of years
BIG sorry !
regards
Milan
PS: by the way this was my posting #100 for a "Schreibmuffel" not too bad

Hallo Christian, Hallo Waldemar
you should see the award documents going with this medal. Veeeery big size with huge autograph of S. Milosevic.
Regards
Milan
Lieber Waldemar,another great find .
So, your ribbon is correct and the posted one is wrong ?
The design of the medal is really cute, but dosen't appear in the YU-communist style. Is it a new medal issued during the Milosevic era of socialism ?
During that time, the government often used the old dies for orders and medals from Tito's era.
Best regards
Christian

Nice grab Kevin
maybe I have a new task for you ..... searching and grabing the different varieties of this medal

Milan
Hallo Chaps,As it was up for grabs, I grabbed it the Serbian Medal for Zeal.
apparently struck in silvered bronze and awarded to non-combat unit Officers for exemplary service,
the Gilded bronze version is for Combat Unit Officers. Apparently manufactured in France WW1 period.
on a dark blue triangular ribbon. The ribbon ring is a replacement though!
Now it resides under the gaze of the old Citidel in Deva.
Many thanks to Noor
