David,
his entry in the Stammliste of IR 21 is more detailed.
Just as an aside, one has to be a little careful with the numbering of the early Füsilier regiments. Although Herr von Motz with the then 34. Infanterie-Regiment, this became the 35. Infanterie-Regiment in 1820 and consequently he is listed in the FR 35 Stammliste! He merits just two lines in the IR 87 Stammliste.

The problem is, that i cannot find a Westphal with GMVK or MEZ1.

Considering his position with Chiang, it's hard to imagine he didn't get a few gongs.
well chaps, it appears he did; granted permission by the Führer and Reichs Chancellor permission to accept and wear the

dated 21 October 1936
Whether he got around to wearing it is debatable; he died a couple of months later.

Hi Jon,
it appears so but one assumes that he was not allowed by seniority rules to be substantively promoted over more senior colonels. Interestingly, it is claimed in "Die Generale des Heeres 1921-1945" that he received a Patent as a Generalmajor of 14.12 17. This is not reflected in the 13 April 1918 Rangliste of which you provided an extract nor is it gazetted in 1918 and 1919 editions of the Bavarian Kriegsministerial-Verordnungsblatt. He was already a Generalleutnant in the first DIenstalterliste I have seen postwar (1922) but his Patent date as a Generalmajor is shown in the publication "Die Führer des Reichsheeres 1921 und 1931" (see attached).

(I have 12.04.1916 in my notes)
Jon,
and you would be correct to do so. 🙂 You are just misreading the Rangliste. General von Lossow is listed after all the generals with a Patent, the last of which had seniority from 14 December 1917. General von Lossow had no Patent at this time and is consequently the next in line. He received his patent post-war in the Reichsheer: 16.6.20.

Commissioned also means his promotion?
Morning Andy,
exactly. Commissioning in the British Army is the initial promotion to officer rank.

Hi Bernd,
I just meant that one would not automatically assume a man from Kiel would be an officer in a Hessian regiment. I have been “collecting” first names of Prussian officers for 25 years. He is in my records as such.

Bernd, Andy,
not helpfully, Leutnant der Reserve Kurt Georg Rieger was on the rolls of Landwehr-Bezirk Kiel! He was commissioned into Landwehr-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 118 on 9 October 1917.

Further to my last post, it must be the handover of command from General von Brandis, to Oberst Erich Schickfus und Neudorff (with spectacles) and I believe the other chap is Oberstleutnant Paul Gerhardt commanding III./15.IR.

Matt,
presumably a group from 15. infanterie-Regiment in late 1929/early 1930. Cordt von Brandis commanded the regiment as a Generalmajor prior to his retirement.

A good example of the pre-dating of commissions for an Abiturient of about two years. Georg Meyer was commissioned as a Leutnant on 18 August 1908 but with a Patent of seniority of 17 September 1906. As the 1908 Rangliste was published in May of that year, he does not appear until the 1909 edition.

A first name for you: Georg. he was awarded the Crown order fourth class on 1 April 1909. I assume it was for his participation in helping in the aftermath of the serious Elbe flooding in 1908.

I note that Dave Langley has advertised his self-published work on the insignia of the Staff Sergeants of British Line Infantry Regular Battalions 1848 to 1919 in the for sale/wanted section. Well, allow me to give a plug for this little gem. Dave has produced an excellent reference which anyone with an interest in the uniforms of the British Victorian/Edwardian army will find extremely useful. Superb detail and highly recommended.

We had Hptm Willi Halbach here already. The other Halbach was Lt dR Hermann Halbach from Lage, KIA shortly before the armistice:
Hauptmann Willi Halbach was serving with RIR 88 at the time of his award. Leutnant Hermann Halbach was with RIR 67. His entry in the "Ehrenmal" lists him as a Leutnant der Landwehr, so presumably Leutnant d.L.Landw.Inf. (Detmold) of 27.1.17.

Morning Andreas,
Feldunterarzt Walter Lichtschlag (Landwehr-Bezirk Wiesbaden) was promoted to Feldhilfsarzt on 25 March 1917 (for the duration of his deployment in the war medical service). I find no further wartime promotion.

it is a number "9". When he retired on 8 October 1926, he was authorised the wear of the uniform of the 9. (Preußischen) Infanterie-Regiment with general officers' insignia.

Just to clarify, Generaloberst von Seeckt did NOT receive an RAO4X, he had the RAO4Kr (i,e, with crown). The crown was awarded to his already held RAO4 on 13 September 1911. He was awarded the China commemorative medal in STEEL as an Hauptmann in the general staff of XVII. Armee-Korps on 19 December 1901.
