      Hi all,

The Hptm Mau from MWB 31.10.1918 is probably a typo, as there is no person with this rank in the Rangliste.

      Hi Matt,

it is not as clear cut as that. There are at least two possibilities:

Hptm. d.L. (20.10.14) Wilhelm Mau of 1. Garde-Grenadier-Landwehr-Regiment or more likely:

      Hptm. d.R. (6.5.18) Willy Mau of Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 89 (serving with Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 175)

      Regards

    3. Morning David,

as far as I am aware a detailed Offizier-Stammliste does not exist for Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 14. However something of his career can be pieced together from the regimental history of 1900 and the Militär-Wochenblatt. His Rufname was Friedrich.

He is shown as having entered IR 14 on 31 May 1816 already in the rank of Kapitän from the 6. Westfälisches Landwehr-Infanterie-Regiment. At this point he was above the establishment or supernumerary (aggregiert) as a 21 January 1817 entry in the Militär-Wochenblatt shows he was "einrangiert" or placed on the establishment of the regiment and he seems to have commanded the 2nd company for numerous years. His name is spelt as Weißhun in the 1817 Prussian Rangliste. He was promoted to Major on 19 August 1834 (commander of II./IR 14) and died in service on 24 January 1841. His sole decoration shown in the 1840 Rangliste was the officers' long service decoration.

      Regards

    4. I am aware of the writing on the back. But as I said in my earlier post:

Anyway, it seems the Berlin adressbuch got his first name wrong. The later Generalmajor Jochmus was Philipp Friedrich Wilhelm August.

    5. He wears the uniform of a Prussian General Staff (or possibly War Ministry) Major. If one assumes that the photograph is taken around 1900/01 (the date of the last award on the rear of the card, I can offer just one suspect. Notwithstanding the later ballpoint annotations on the rear, I can find just one General Staff Major in 1901 with this combination of awards; Major Otto Jochmus à la suite to the General Staff and an instructor at the War Academy.

    6. Hi Karlo,

I don't think he is Wilhelm von Haxthausen. That leaves Hubert von Rebeur-Paschwitz and Theoder Eschenburg. On balance, I would tend towards Admiral Eschenburg. Nikolaus Graf zu Dohna-Schlodien did perform duty as a Flügel-Adjutant during the Kaiser's exile but number 2 does not appear to be him. Freiherr von Paleske seems more likely.

    7. Hi Andreas,

he entered the army on 15 September 1864 in the Württemberg field artillery.

      13.3.68: Lieutenant (Patent of 21.4.66)

      20.7.70: Oberlieutenant/Premier-Lieutenant

      22.5.76: Hauptmann

      18.8.88: Major

      20.6.89: Oberst-Lieutenant

      18.10.91: Oberst

      27.1.96: Generalmajor

The badge is the commemoration badge to King Karl, 1891 (Erinnerungszeichen an König Karl).
