    1. Hello Christiaan, nice collection Order of the Crown.

Those boxes with "text" as you probably allready know meaning:

      - POC / GPK = Palmes d'Or Couronne / Gouden Palmen Kroonorde

      - MOC / GMK = Médaille d'or Couronne / Gouden Medaille Kroonorde

Box with M 1e is probably for the Civilian medal 1st class but also could be for an other medal, Burgerlijke Medaille 1914-1918. (Civilian Medal 14-18)

      Hello Werner,

Thanks for the Bombeck citation above. As to foreign awards to Belgians, I assume you are familiar with the US Medal of Freedom book by Peter Verstraeten ?

A final citation request if I may ... 3rd class (silver) medal to G. WATTEEU Lede 20 July 1862. The name may be misspelled on the medal and missing a "W" at the end ...

As you can see Hendrik, his name was correctly spelled.

Indeed I know and have that publication by Peter Verstraeten.

I am aware that its almost impossible but you know that sometimes Belgian groupings comes with a foreign medal or order.

Maybe I will refraise my question later for a specific medal 😀

      Regards, Werner

    3. Hello bilylev.

As you can see and read, this one should be in gilded silver and the crown in silver (second class).

His name was engraved in the wrong way, it should be Fenchère instead of Feuchère.

      Cheers, Werner

      Hello Werner,

Many thanks for the citation. Translated into English it goes like this :

Schrader Jean-Baptiste, policeman, Brussels 25 November 1849. Silver Gilt.

A woman had fallen, on 25 November 1849, around 11 o'clock at night, in a basin on a construction site; she had already disappeared under the water when policeman Schrader, drawn by the cries for help of this woman, jumped, fully clothed, into the water and managed through great exertions to rescue her.

Shall we do another one ? This one is a 3rd class (silver) medal to J.F. Bombeek, Ichtegem 5 September 1847 :

      Hello Hendrik,

for this one I have to consult an other publication because it is a 1847 medal.

As you have noticed, the head of Leopold I is smaller. Meaning that originally it was just a medal without crown. Perhaps you can check if this medal was mounted into a circle. Difficult to explaine in English for me. Otherwise send me a PM to explain this in Dutch.

I forgot to mention that the ribbon is not original. It is a modern replacement.

      Greetings,

    4. Hello VC89.

There's a study about these medals where you can find those names. You can also find them in "Moniteur Belge" - "Belgisch Staatsblad".

Your medal should be a second class, the medal is gilded silver and the crown silver. Perhaps you can do some cleaning.

He also received a silver medal (third class) for an other act of bravery in 1849.

      Greetings

Hello Igor, your medal misses its crown. It should be like the picture included.

      Greetings, Werner
