Hello Christian,
like Wild Card already pointed out, its important to set a timeframe, as the awards often changed rapidly in their prestige.
Just concerning the Great Patriotic War and if we speak about Bravery-awards and the prestige, the soldiers connected to them, i would say, these were the most respected awards:
Order of Alexander Nevsky
Order of the Great Patriotic War 1st class
Order of Glory
Medal for Bravery
I?ll skip the awards like Suvorov, Kutuzov, which i don?t know enough about to give a educated opinion.
The Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner had the most prestige before they were given as a Long-Service award, which devalued them very much. Same with the Order of the Red Star, which was in the beginning a high Bravery award, like Christian already said.
But just restricted to the GPW-area, i would go with the four on the list above...
all the best,
Gerd

Richie,
thank you very much for the information. I knew, it was an early one, but i wouldn?t have thought, its this old.

Hello all,
i got this Brass&Enamel Cap star in a lot with some medals latlely and i noticed, that the arms are very pointy compared to other specimen. Can someone help me to date this star and maybe even with its purpose?
Do i have a very rare Cap Star, only Marshal Zhukov himself wore on the cap or is it just a variation of the usual stars?
Any input is welcome
Thanks in advance

Hi KeithB,
Following up on your question as to “What belongs in the first two spots (?)” here is an old beaten up bar that may offer another possibility.
Best wishes,
Wild Card
Wow
WC, you are allways able to throw in an absolute stunner in almost every thread
Beautiful piece with the Jubilee Cross for Members of Both Chambers! The Medal in fourth place is the silver or the golden Medal of the Order of the Bavarian Crown? "Losch" or "Losch F." type, if silver?
Thanks for sharing your great Medalbars with us
Heiko, thats a beautiful set

Actually (assumed, i had the money to buy a set), i would prefer such a set whith its individualities instead of a "flawless" Slava-Set with three "textbook" Glories. But i don?t collect for the investment...

Hello and welcome, Simon. Thats a good start for only 5 months collecting I also like the 2 place Medalbar most

Thanks Rick and WC
I totally forgot about the St. George Cross, which makes sense in this old combination of course. And i failed to recognize the noncombattant War Medal 1813/5.
Thanks Gentlemen

Rick, could you name the awards on combo Nr. 1 and 2, please?
And whats the middle one of the last combo, which looks like a soviet VoG Ribbon?
TIA

Man, those low serial numbers!! Would love to add a Cavalier set to my collection but $14,000...YIKES!!
I remember those groups going for a LOT less, but that's an all too familiar story.
Matthijs,
the high price is only, because the 2nd class is a Type 1 "border reverse" and i guess, thats already 5-6.000 Dollar, add maybe 5000 for the 1st class, group premium and so on... and you get close to 14.000 Dollar.

Thank you
yes it is being offered as a set!! The price being asked is ?160. I would like the certificate if its ok and would appreciate your help regarding its value alone.
thanks again
andy
PS in your opinion, is the medal bar period at all or a modern made up piece?
The medalbar is messed with in my opinon. Post the last picture, which you posted on the other forum too and i guess, everyone will agree, that the EK on non-combattant ribbon was added at a later point.
Btw, 160 British Pounds is insane

I have the strong suspicion that there are also fake Gold Soyombo's in circulation. Have been offered one directly for sale (different photographs which were clearly not of the same item) and there is now also one for sale on soviet-awards.com that has sparked my suspicion
Bob,
the same Hero Star is for sale here on the forum and on the WAF-forum too. Here the link to the sales-thread on this forum:

I can?t say anything to the originality of this piece, although i must say, my first thought was, that it looked odd compared to others.

Don and Robert, thanks a lot to both of you. Its indeed unmarked, like Don said.
As its not my collecting field anymore, i have sold my Huesken copy a while ago. Should anyone of you be interested in a trade, just let me know.
Thanks again

Fantastic Document Set Gosnak-Red Star Nr. 913, wow!

Gentlemen,
can anyone with the Huesken catalog tell me, what this is? Its on a long stickpin with red and black enamel (hard to see in the picture).
Also, if someone knows, the approximate value?
Thanks in advance
all the best,
Gerd
PS: Most interesting thread!!!

Thats a good start Now you only need a ribbon, they are quite easy to find.

Thank you Andrei Good to have your opinion to this piece
The differnt patina is the only "obvious" reason to believe, the piece had a number, which was removed. It is done, like you describe it, after the removal of the number the reverse was sandblasted and thats why you don?t see any buffs around the number and it looks like the rest of the reverse.
Thanks again!
best,
Gerd

Nice. Nr. 3 and 5 belong together, just in case, you didn?t notice.
I?ll try to translate the names tomorrow, as at least two of them are good readable, but i am too tired to do that now, sorry...

Well, who could explain it better than member Firemedals
I might add, they are indeed pinback-version in full-size.

Lovely The Prussian fire award very rarely turnes up in mini groups

I know Gerd, but I see the Red Star as closer to the Order of Military Merit [Combat Service] (a uniquely military award awarded, at times, for long service).
I think the problem is that there just isn't a Soviet parallel of the "Polar Star"? It is its own thing?
I agree, Ed. There is no soviet order, it absolutely corresponds to. I didn?t know, the Military Merit Order was given for LS too, interesting, thanks.

Christian,
i would agree with your order of precedence, except, i would place the Order of the Great Patriotic War 1st class above the Glory 3rd class in Category "B". Thats all...
