Same here, agree completely. Although not my focus, its very interesting to see all these beautiful awards and read the information.

As an aside-one place you can start with a reasonable degree of confidence is the WW1 trio-where medal cards are availabe on-line. You can still pick up a hard-won pair of WW1 medals to a line regiment private for $40. Also, groups with the ISM seem to still be availble.

I had no idea about the Pakistani fakes though-sigh.

Gentlemen,

lately i am looking a little deeper into British Awards and see, that named Medals are deeply researchable. Now i am thinking about to add one or maybe little two groups to my collection and would like to have something representative for WW 2? What would i have to look for? What should be part of the group? Lets assume a pricerange of 200 Dollar. I have no particular interest, Army, Navy, Enlisted, Officer, whatever....

Also, a (not too expensive, i might add) reference for Medals of Great Britain.

Look foward to your suggestions.

After looking again at this group, i am quite sure, its okay. The orders book was issued with the Red Star Nr. 1.923.384 and the Long Service Awards (Red Star, ORB) were added later. Now, his first Red Star should be a "real" award and the rest are his Long-Service awards.

thats a Prussian Crown Order Medal, worth probably about 75-100 Dollar, i would guess.

Lovely group, Ed. No worries about the number on the Red Star, its a MZPP product, they are this way. I am not sure about the orders book though. I am curious, what the experts have to say.

in an 1870?s group this would have been another version of the SEHO-Medal. On an 1870?s bar there would be most probably the version with Herzog Ernst I and on the 1914 Medal bar there should be the version of Herzog Carl Eduard.

Thats a real nice one with a really really low number, Dan I have two pairs of these 85er issues too, which belong to groups and they are indeed quite nice, but once, you have discovered the beauty of the wartime issues, you are lost, man
