Superb group, just superb. This is the forst time I actually see a group for an Afghanistan combat vet.
I agree, fantastic group. And only the second one, i have ever seen.
Thanks for sharing the research with us. Both awards combat-awards, what would you want more?

The problem is, they don't go cheap. he sells them for a tidy sum. he's patient, he uses all original materials and for the most part, the combinations make sense. He mixes in lots of small, cheap (obviously) real bars and the unsuspecting buyer goes forward. When he first popped up, he sold a small group of very nice, very original bars with very different style/composition/materials... they went for large Euros and I think a "Cottage Industry" was born.........
Once upon a time, I bought every part that showed up publicly. Ribbon, mounts, devices...... everything/anything to keep this sort of thing from happening (so I thought)....... I couldn't keep up with it....
Okay, then i will wait a while, until he wasted the more valuable ribbons and starts to produce cheaper bars. Must happen someday, i think.

Hi Eric, I'm not sure and that is entirely possible. I have been wracking my brain since I noticed the labor medal trying to figure out when/where I last saw one!!
Yeah, same here. I haven?t seen very much of them, much much less than the Bravery-Version. And i also think, they share the same ribbon, maybe Ricky L. can shed some light on this.

Glad to see this forum. I neither collect nor know much about pre-Revolutionary Russian ODMs.
This is why I welcome the forum: to learn!
I don?t collect them either, but do very much enjoy to look at them and learn about them.
Great idea
And i already have a question for you Imperial collectors. Which of the Imperial Decorations of Russia were numbered, except of the St. George?s Crosses? And were some of the badges numbered as well?
TIA

Gerd

Rick,
if i am not mistaken, you don?t see the Hessian Medal very often on older trapezoid Medalbars, is that right? Or does this apply only to the Bravery Version?

Maybe one of us should buy a cheap simple one and take a closer look on the construction. I know, its waste of money, but for educations sake?
Ahem, did i say, i am broke this month
No, just kidding if noone of the RB-Collectors bites, i?ll give it a go.

Hello Danny,
I have a little red book about the recipants/number of all 3 classes Order of Glory. Mail me your number of Glory second class and I can look, if he has got the 1st and 3rd class Order. If he has no first class,
I am not able to tell you the number of his 3rd class.
regards
Andreas
Sorry, i misunderstood that part obviously

This is the event surrounding the awarding of an Order of Glory 2nd Class I had researched last year and translated. Here is the citation as appearing on the citation:
While in the 132nd Rifle Division on the night of 31.10.44, he cleared a lane under heavy enemy fire in an enemy mine field and wire obstacles.
A grenade was thrown in a section of wire, but due to the persistence of Private Abulev, the breach was maintained.
He is deserving of the Order of Glory II Class.
He was awarded the Order of Glory 2nd Class the following month. I am missing his Order of Glory 3rd class.
Danny,
Andreas (Alfed) has a book with the numbers of Glory Sets. I am sure, he can tell you the number his 3rd class.

Gerd

Hi Steen:
Thanks for the comments - you have quite a valuable resource in your website
Hi Gerd:
"OF" is my shorthand for the Bulgarian name of the Fatherland Front: Otechestven Front
Cheers,
Eric
Thank you, Eric

Rusty,
i agree with you.
Do you have seen one of these copies and can you provide a picture? That would be most helpful. And if possible, pm me the names of the dealers, you are talking about.
Thanks in advance
all the best,
Gerd

I didn?t take enough time to study your cloth one so I can?t comment on that.Expert or no expert I take sides with Mr.Hansen on this issue, yeah do good shots of your dotty one and so will I with my not so dotty one and then we should be able to compare.
Why is there not even a sentence on those in any reference book?Again I?ve seen what happened to Hawkeye out here,I don?t want to leave this place through the roof,so I hope I didn?t offend anyone.Anyway I wouldn?t touch a dotty one nor take it as gift. These are not dotted ones but dotty ones to me
Regards
This happened to Mr. Hansen NOT because of his opinion to Rounders or "dotted date" DK?s, but his try to sell something, he believes to be fake, on ebay is the reason for his suspension.
In my opinion there is nothing wrong with these DK?s. I have had one in hand maybe a year ago and was able to compare it to other Originals and in my humble opinion are these pre-45 DK?s.
Just my two Euro-Cents...

F(unken)T(elegraph) Gast, n?turlich! I'd say the last name is "B?hmig" based on where the i is dotted, and the four //// strokes.
What is a "Funken Telegraph Gast"?
I would agree on the name "B?hmig"

Like most of George's circle, I had only spoken to Tony by phone and email before his long, hard final illness. My deepest sympathies are with his family. My sadness is lightened by acceptance of the fact that his long suffering is over at last.
The "top guys" in Imperial German collecting were always quiet, dedicated, serious men-- none of the flash and noise and showboating we so often accept as "normal" in the Third Reich high enders. But also unlike the Wallet Collectors, they recognized and welcomed the fellowship and spirit of shared common interest, across all lines of age and income.
Tony and his peers had CLASS.
It was my privilege to circle in their orbit for pretty close to 30 years, drawn in by research and shared good company-- even by mail, or phone in those not so long ago days "pre-computer" (none of the circle were ever Internet guys). If you know of any other branch of our hobby where the world leaders accept "kids" as one of their own, I've never heard of it.
NONE of these friends left us when they should have-- all called away before their times. This generation should not have already passed, and we who are left are not and can not compensate for the knowledge they took away with them. As an apprentice, my training has been cut off before it was complete, and now can never be completed without their friendship and guidance and experience.
An era is passing.
Tony will be missed.
Well said, Rick.

I wonder...? How is it the crown and swords device goes through the mounting and is bent over on the reverse of the mount while the clasps appear to be attached through the ribbon and bent over on the obverse of the mounting bar?
Yep, swords and other devices are mostly (if not allways) attached on the medalbar itself, whereas clasps are mostly (if not allways) were mounted on the ribbon.
