Christian, "selling medals" is not in Eds vocabulary
Ed, nice group. Do you get an advance warning for Alexeis update?

Major? That's a Guards Lieutenant-Colonel (Pavel Aleksandrovich Lapin)...
Auke, thanks, you are right of course. I had this picture in mind, when i wrote that text above, sorry....
Can anyone assist with the text on this one?

Interesting. If i remember correctly, joe campbell had one like this. I really like the look of these pieces, but have no idea about the significance of the white enamel...

Got a few more today...
What would you say, how old would you guess this Major?
Noone bites? I would have guessed him at about 30-35 on this picture, but now look at this one of the same chap:

Avanti orden sounds like a german nickname for an italian order or medal. I think, i have heard it before, but don?t remember where.

Christian,
i was talking about the dimensions, not the style. Does this not remind you of Hitlers and Speers cold architecture of "Germania" somehow?

As massive as Hitler?s vision of "Germania"

Thanks for the info on Wismut , never knew that !
Cheers
My uncle worked in this mine in Aue and he became ill and died of lung cancer due to the radiation. He only worked two years there.
The mine was supervised by the soviet NKVD and all the Uranium went to the USSR.
Andreas, nice badges. They seem to be of very nice quality

Thank you both, gents. I am going to buy some matboard and see, if there are any other acid free materials, which can be used for this.
Thanks again

Dave, the one with blue and white enamel is a soviet Motherhood Medal 1st class. Can?t help you with the other one, sorry.

I suppose if you wanted to use cardboard
acid free matboard would be a much better choice
also foamcore is good
see an arts supply store for either
redcross, what is a matboard?

Gerd, I'm afraid that in 1 or 2 years you will already see that the reverse of your medals will be discoloured. Cardboard is not good for your medals, I swear. I should avoid putting your medals into contact with cardboard; otherwise you will be very disappointed in few years.
Bryan, thanks for the warning. I?ll check, what i can use instead.

Chris is right with his suspicion. You have to post single closeups of the ribbonbars, especially of the one in row 6, which is together with the 3 place bar in the top row the only ones, which are good in my opinion. I don?t have very much hope for all the others.
Naoki, post the closeups in THIS thread please and don?t start a seperate one for every ribbonbar. You can do this by just clicking the reply-button somewhere in this thread and add the pictures here. Thank you.
all the best,
Gerd

Here is the one from Skorzeny. I don?t know, for how much it went, but it was on the last HH-auction, if i am not mistaken.
