Marcus-- that's the "Meritorious Service Medal" which is for labor achievements.
Actually, it would not surprise me in the least if fake North Korean stuff starts showing up. I am not aware of any NOW...
but North Vietnamese fakes and fantasy items have been flooding the market for years, and by a conservative estimate of what I see at shows,
95% of supposed Red Chinese badges and the like are brand new frauds and fantasy items. (Beware of TRAYS full of awards all with matching dull finishes and plastic "ribbons") Any "market" ther might have been for REd Chinese items has been effectively destroyed BEFORE there was any interest at all.
So far i haven?t seen any fakes of NK awards out there yet, but you never know... If they start to fake a Medal for 5 Dollar, then everything is possible, i guess. They are probably quite easy to fake (at least the Order of National Flag) and the screwback versions go for much more than these pinback versions. So i wouldn?t be surprised to see fakes of these on the market. The day will come, i am sure....

Here is another example, construction similar like the one on top of the thread, but an official issued medal, the 25 years of Victory badge.

Being someone who can almost never bring themselves to sell anything, finding a buyer won't really be an issue. I've inherited my grandfather's infamous packrat genes. I picked it up for $50. I knew it was a deal, but I didn't know how much of a deal it was.
Thanks,
Chris
50 $ was a very good deal. Even for this damaged piece.

its "Th?ringer Landesm?nnerverein d. Rt. Kr.(des Roten Kreuzes, could be v. "vom Roten Kreuz" too)."
Beautiful bar, btw.

Hi guys,
My one and only N. Korean medal, it's military medal of sorts........for the life of me I don't recall exactly just now (great post Marcus tut)
Gerd broth,
You have some nice ones, I bought this because it was.......well I just liked it and it was so cheap from e bay, about 3 pounds.
There's a multitude of these N. Korean medals and I think they're great, we know so little about them and it will only be a matter of time and I bet these will be faked and they'll certainly creep up in price !!!

Nice one, Marcus. This one is still missing in my collection, but you still can get it chap on ebay. I guess, you are right with the prices. They will climb a little, when they start to fake these, but probably not this century. There is not much demand for this NK-awards yet, but slowly they become collectible, like it seems.
Thanks for posting your medal, brother.

Yup. The "bridge" for me between Imperial German and Soviet (of all types) is...
pretty enamel.
Yep, Same here. Enameled Imperial orders have a simple beauty, whereas the enameled communist orders often have a wonderful and complicating design.

Hey Marcus, brother, good to see you here also. Some nice badges do you have there. I like these academy badges as well very much. But i only have a few and all of them are later non-silver versions. But i will add some more for sure. At least the common ones and a few common civilians. They are really pretty little buggers.

Medal for Distinguished Service
in Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Posted · Edited by Gerd
Hi everyone,
this came in today. A 1st class of the Soviet Medal for Distinguished Service. Now i am looking for a 2nd class. Came from Weitze, actually one of the few good priced items on his site.
*The Medal for Distinguished Service was institutet on the 28. Oktober 1974. It was awarded to serviceman for achievements in training, political activities and courage and bravery while in service. It was worn on the right breast below orders of the USSR.
30.000 1st classes were awarded and about 120.000 2nd classes. The 1st class is made or gold-plated aluminium alloy and clear plastic. The 2nd class is made of silver-plated aluminium and clear plastic. The diameter of the Medal is 38 mm. The five symbols on the star represent:
Anchor-Navy
Star with wreath-Army
Propellor with wings-Air Force
Tank-Tank troups
Crossed Cannons-Artillery troups
The makermark-symbol on the back stands for the cyrillic letters for MMD, which is the abbreviation for Moskovskii Monetny Dvor (Moskow Mint)
Enjoy
