Thank you for your prompt reply. If you are able to confirm which medal it is for I will then get to photographing and posting my modest but growing collection. Japanese militaria is new to me and I am stumbling along with Peterson's latest edition of The Orders and Medals of Japan and Associated States in one hand and the good old magnifying glass in the other. One photo to follow.

Can anyone tell me if the wood case used for the 1914-1915 War Medal (single row of Kanji on reverse) is the same as used for the 1914-1920 War Medal with double row of text?

Hello,

I think you have an authentic Order of the Rising Sun ("Kyokujitsusho") 8th Class. Established in 1875 as Japan?s first national decoration, I do not believe that it continued on after the war.

I am also new to Japanese medal collecting so please wait for confirmation of this from other collectors more experienced than I. It's possible that we will both learn something. Thank you for showing your award.

From different sources I have this now...

14th Area Army (Under overall command of Lieutenant General Homma.)

35th Army

16th Infantry Division (Referred to as the Wall Division.)

20th Infantry Regiment

2nd Battalion

25th Company

6555th Unit

120th Soldier

Anyone else have input here? I'm wondering if the Unit and individual soldier number may not be reversed. It's an interesting little puzzle and any information no matter how small is appreciated. It all helps unravel the mystery.

I have some information from the seller, and believe it to be authentic, but would like to hear what any of you have to say. Outstanding buckle. Not often you find the high points (breast feathers in particular) in that condition. I knew the production time frame was short but did not know the limits. Thanks for that piece of information...learn something new every day.
