whoops-sorry didn't mean to be rude-I just saw this. My brother-in-law lives there. It's a nice place.

Be very, very careful with these-the back looks very much like a new fake"replacement" series of hungarian medals that are floating around this year.

I also would like to see some info on Japanese fakes-having just learned i was burnt-grrrr....
also, anything about medals and ribbon bars.

Well, I did not know & knowledge is power.
I orginally bought it from Eric Doodey on a whim as an Xmas present for Rick , but I got him something else instead so decided to post it.
Oh well-
ignoranece WAS bliss-

Hmmm... I got it from a pretty knowledgable source.
Why do you think it is a fabrication?
What exactly is wrong with it? I know little about who got what Japanese awards.

Pershore indeed had an "Abbey Lodge" down the street from the actual abbey.

Thank you Jeff!
Having perused my US books and the internet-uh.....
what exactly was the "War Department ETO service ribbon"? When was it authorized? Can you provide me/us with any additional information? Am I correct in assuming that some Red Cros person would have been able to receive this ribbon?
Thanks!

A ebay find. Any ideas? One inch long with a brass backing. Doesn't look too old.

Fantastic! It is the first bone fide WW1 style "flat mounting" I have ever seen.

When did the slotted broach production cease and the crimped broach start?
According to Bender the former type went until the 1960s -especially for decorations and awards, but the latter started with the WW2 vistory medal.

Gerd:
As an aside-one place you can start with a reasonable degree of confidence is the WW1 trio-where medal cards are availabe on-line. You can still pick up a hard-won pair of WW1 medals to a line regiment private for $40. Also, groups with the ISM seem to still be availble.
I had no idea about the Pakistani fakes though-sigh.

My cousin Rowena worked there in the early 1970s before going to Christies. Send a hand written letter to the Director. they are old fashioned and odds are the old man will say something like "You-underling-take care of this chap pleae"

No, Spinks do and have manufactured medals for many.many years-they are top notch world class numinists.
I grew up in their warehouse offices.
Their archives are a treasure chest-closely guarded by attractive young ladies who have NO interest in letting researchers into the files. However, a letter to the Director will get you a result.

I have a picture somewhere of a Major DL in a Baden artillery battery-with this combination of awards (except for the KVK-which was likely for home service).
Nice group!

There is also a 14th Maine Volunteer Infantry website-but John Spear is not listed thereupon. Try forum #1-they seem to really know their stuff.
