    1. This interesting piece arrived today. It appears to have a sheet metal core. It looked diffrent so I took a chance. It wasn't expensive. It is very light weight. I was afraid it would blow away when I took the photos. It is magnetic and 3 piece construction. The hardware looks period type with a nice needle pin. Frame appears to be silver. It is not marked. I like to collect variants so this on intrigued me. What does everyone think of this one? Anyone ever come across such a thing? Was it some bargain cross? These have many variations as you all know, so it seems possible. Too bad about all the paint loss, but nothing holds paint better than the traditional iron cores.

    2. I have an EK1 1914 w/spange combo. I believe it to be a sweet jewelers piece because of the silver alone. The name Klaus Loy is engraved on the reverse. Does anyone have any lists from any texts, soldbuchs, photos (I know I'm asking for the impossible with that one) that might mention this person with this award?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Some pictures would be nice, but this particular set up has to really be watched. They did exist but have been faked alot. Engraved pieces also have to be watched. Think about it, what would a legit EK/spange combo with period engraving go for? I'm not saying your item isn't good but some pictures would really help.

    3. KAG is a fairly common maker, seemingly more common in the 2nd class than the 1st class, but definatley not rare. It is no where near as common as KO in my opinion. The marking always seems to be on the pin and two diffrent core types have been ID'ed, the standard core and one known as a wide crown which is harder to find. There are also a couple of diffrent types of hardware that have been seen, ie pin variations. KAG is an unknown maker in that the firm has not been identified. KAGs are usually flat, not vaulted and are considered wartime award pieces as opposed to private purchase pieces. Nice crosses for sure. Pictures would help all the same to ensure authenticity.
